1965 VW Beetle Sedan For Sale

This is a car that has me really excited.
Oh sure...Im known for liking strange things, but follow along with me here and you will see
why this blue Beetle is truly a once in a lifetime find.

The car itself is interesting, and is in very clean shape
but it sure doesnt seem to match up with the style of what people are building today.
And there is a very good reason for that... this car was built over 30 years ago.
There have been a couple slight changes since then (such as the wheels) but darn near everything else
is just as it was in 1977 when the car rolled out of the garage and to it's first Southern California show.

It was the best of the best in it's day, built as a show car and as a serious performance machine.
The owner/builder didnt hold back...it was a true labor of love and a heavy emptying of his wallet.
It was shown just a few times and was then stashed away in the owner's garage for the next 25 or so years
until it was pulled out and revived by it's current owner (actually there was another guy in between there somewhere).

The car is true 1970's artwork to me...like something right out of a time machine.
Put on the bell bottoms and fire up the 8 track tape player...we are goin cruisin!!

The car has survived the test of time amazingly well. The paintwork is still very nice with only a few
small flaws, the pinstriping, the Empi "67" style flared fenders, the boogaloo blue paint scheme...it's awesome.
Originally the car was fitted with US slotted Mag wheels...13" in front and 14" in rear with classic 70's rubber.
Sadly the wheels are now gone and more modern ones have been fitted with new tires.
Picture the car with some deep dish Empi "sprint stars" or another 70's classic wheel and the look is back proper.

The pinstriping is signed "Fisk '77" and is beautifully done.
A quick online search shows this to be the work of Lyle Fisk
(www.lylefisk.com) a legendary So Cal striper that got started in the 50's
and has worked with the likes of Von Dutch and George Barris.

On the left is Fisk, Von Dutch in the center...circa 1982
Fisk is still around doing amazing brush work on anything that comes his way.

The work is beautiful, and it looks as fresh now as it probably did in 77.
A car that has received some very good care.

67 style headlights...

Look at the detail.

The bodywork is very very nice and straight and the paint is very glossy.

The flared fenders are awesome...pure history here.

The wheels are tires are like new on the car...if fact they are new and they are very nice
But I think swapping them out for something that matches the age of the car would be best...either back to the US slotted mags
or some other similar choice...of couse...that is just my opinion and I should probably keep that to myself.

Original Hella lenses look like new.

Clean California title with current registration.

More awesome striping...signed by Fisk again on the rear.

Sweet

The fiberglass fenders are in great shape by the way.

More nice licks from the striper's brush.

Are you starting to get the vibe here? Am I the only one that thinks this car is amazing?
Probably not... but it will be interesting to see who scoops this up for their collection.

The chrome is excellent, bumpers very nice.
Bumper brackets and such have all been chrome plated as well.

Wipers have been chromed...glass is all excellent.

Mirror and antenna are nice...look at the reflection on the body...very shiny.

A little peek inside...more on this later.

Bumpers have the accessory stiffener bars that have been chromed.

So there is the exterior...lets look in a little deeper

Under the hood was show detailed and chrome plated everything (almost)

Hood hinges and springs are chromed

Gas tank, access plates, and even the stock jack where chrome plated.

Amazing fitted carpet kit even stretches down into the spare tire well...with holes to show the chrome access plates.

Hood latch is chrome plated (bolts too)

Custom matching tool roll...with chrome plated tools!

And these are mostly the original German tools that have been chromed...not off the shelf stuff.

A little cleaning to do perhaps...but all in nice shape still.

Hood latch under the hood was plated as well

Out back the story gets even more interesting.
Talk about period performance stuff...this one has it all (and more)

The engine is a 1941cc unit that has the legendary Pauter 73X 92mm Chevy Rod Stoker kit
It also features a pair of classic Gene Berg square port heads and Pauter 1.6 Rev-True Rockers!

Weber carbs with Redline filters.

Very nice aluminum work in the engine compartment...look at the curves.

Fuel pressure regulator, all stainless braided lines.

Here's the Pauter catalog image of the Stroker kit.

and of the Rev-True Roackers....wild stuff eh?

The Pauter catalog is included by the way...

As are original build cost sheet prepared by the owner/builder
Check out the $2000 chrome bill...remember this was in 1977 money!!

Here are some of the engine part prices...

Cool glass-pack style exhaust

A little grime unde here...current owner has been running it quite a bit.
The engine runs well and hauls some serious butt too.
Check out the chrome plated Empi Camber Compensator and chrome axle tubes and more!

Everything was fully show detailed back in the 70's and with a little clean up, it could be there again.

Floor pans are very solid and nicely undercoated.

No rust, no repairs.

Chrome spring plates and caps...a little polish and they will shine right back up.

Originally the front beam and even the backing plates and such were chromed.
The current owner slammed a curb while driving and was concerned that the chrome beam may have
been damaged...so he replaced it. He kept the original beam and it goes with the car.
Check out the chrome steering box and pittman arm and sway bar too...

The interior is awesome as well...more chrome and lots of it.

The Lecarra steering wheel looks a bit newer to me than 77...perhaps that was changed at some point.
Check out the chromed speaker grilles and glove box door as well as that period VDO tach!

Odometer shows 34,915 miles at the time of the photos...actual mileage is unknow.

This photo came out kinda dark... but you can see the 67 only dash knobs (window cranks too)
The chrome plated ashtray and radio

Awesome old VDO tach with chrome mount.

Mirror finish baby!

Headliner is excellent...done in blue vinyl with matching visors.

Seats are excellent in blue vinyl as well.
Under the seat is fully carpeted, the battery cover is chromed as is the seat support bar...this guy went all out!

Front seats are in very good shape with only the slightest sign of wear.
Note the chrome plated seat frames!!

Door panels are awesome

Chromed the door check rod and the domelight switch.

Door latches were even chromed

Driver's side panel

Detail of the chrome seat frames

Chromed steering column, bracket and even the turn signal switch!

Might as well chrome the pedal assembly too...
Note..the center section of the carpet is out of the car right now but is included.
The current owner had to pull the carpet up to replace the fuel line and thee was a little damage to the carpet
The shifter was changed to an Empi trigger shifter and the old center section wont fit over the knob...but it is here.

Chrome dimmer switch

Here's where the carpet got messed up a little...bummer.

Fire extinguisher for safety

Here you can see the new shifter and the center hump...great carpet kit by the way with the matching vinyl foot pads.

The original shifter is included by the way (and of course it has been chromed)

Another shot of the seats

Chromed door sills...and a little more carpet damage.

So...there you have it...more photos than you would ever hope for,
but I think I have probably showed you all the coolest stuff that this car has to offer.
It is a true time warp machine and someone os going to fall madly for it...it is, VERY cool!
