1970 Mercedes 280SL For Sale

This gorgeous classic Mercedes has been a Southern California car its whole life.
Thought to be 3 owners since new, purchased originally through an Orange County based leasing company,
the original owners we believe picked it up at the factory
and drove through Europe and then it was delivered to Palmer Imports in Long Beach California
for its first service. Service records show its Orange County home base
and registration slips show its move to Temecula California where it resides today.

The car is a very well preserved original with one repaint in the original Champagne color.
Top and seat upholstery was redone but the rest of the interior is original.

Extremely straight and solid, always well kept and cared for.
A very pretty car.

Body and paint are very nice, chrome remains bright and the car shows well.

The car comes with the factory hard top as well as the soft top and it has a clean
California title with current registration,

While not a concours level car perhaps, this is a very well kept and attractive driver.

The chrome "bundt" wheels give it a bit of flash
(original wheels with full hubcaps come with the car as well)

Nice grille and bumpers, lights and lenses all in nice shape.

Very clean machine.

The interior is mostly original with only the top and seat upholstery being redone.

Seat upholstery imported from Germany and in excellent condition.

Automatic transmission, original carpets and door panels.

Dealer installed air conditioning was last serviced a couple years ago
but will need a recharge.  Factory radio and clock still in place.

Carpet floor mats cover the original flooring underneath,

Door panels in excellent shape

Under the carpet mats is the original floor covering.
The heel pad has broken up a bit, but the floor mats have kept the original carpet
from fading.

Sun visors appear original with minimal aging.

Headliner looks great and top frame is clean and functions smoothly.

Here on the passenger side you can see the original mat that has remained protected and dark
while the carpet around it has lightened with exposure to the sun,

Steering wheel is in great shape as well as the horn ring and pad.

Odometer reads 43729 miles.
Service records show service in the mid 70's at 64,000 miles
so its safe to assume the odometer has rolled over.

Original paint on the dash by the way.

Love that Becker radio

Nice looking interior overall for sure.

I love seeing original details such as this sticker in the door jam

Door sills are clean and solid and expected wear on the pedals.

Glove box has a bunch of historic registration slips and some service records.
All the original manuals and booklets also remain with the car.

Behind the seat area is also clean and original.

Dash pad is in very good shape with only a couple very small flaws.

Speaker grille and dash trim in good condition.

Top in great shape with excellent fit and clear rear window.

Glass is all good

The factory hard top with its stand and cover come with the car as well.

Paint is excellent on the top

Headliner remains original and in good shape as well

Tires are in good condition with excellent tread remaining.
Chrome wheels are also super clean and as mentioned before
the stock steel wheels with hubcaps also come with the car.

Nice and straight down the sides!

Very good fit and finish to everything.

The only notable exterior flaw is this one spot inboard of the passenger side headlight
where there is a paint crack.

Nose looks straight and clean.

The underside of the car is impressively solid and shows no signs of
welding or repair.

Nice to see those clean seams and factory spot welds.

Very solid example

Nothing hidden, all still factory undercoat and original.

Very nice to see one this solid.

Southern California weather has treated this one so nice!

The engine is an excellent runner and has been serviced under current ownership
as well as previous ownership by a well respected shop in the Temecula area.
Always well cared for and kept in tip top shape.

Fuel injection system works well and it is a delight to drive.

The current owner has decided to sell as the car is not getting as much use as it has in the past
and rather have it sit, its time to see it get into the hands of someone that will really enjoy it.

Remnants of an original sticker on the valve cover

Production tag is present on the fender well

The stamped engine number is just barely visible here.
The riveted aluminum tag below it is missing.

Original tool roll and folder full of books and manuals

The metal owners tag is still here showing the leasing company
as the first registered owner...the car was kept by the lessor and then there have been two owners since.

Original paper key tag was found in the glove box.

First service in the US after its trip through Europe at 3153 miles

Additional service at the same dealership into 1971

More service stamps in the book from Motschenbacher in Santa Ana in 1975
at 64,627 miles

All sorts of fun booklets remain with the car

Great stuff!

Even the original locking keys and instructions for the Hirschmann antenna are here

Some recent service records are with the car as well

The original German tourist plates from the trip when the car was new.

The tool roll is original and shows the Mercedes logos

Handles for the top in their original pouch.

Rubber trunk mat has been replaced and looks fantastic

Under the mat the trunk floor and inner sheet metal looks extremely solid.

Spare tire and cover

The original jack is tucked in nice and tight below the wheel

Here are the stock steel wheels with matching hubcaps

Full set of four are here,

In closing this is a very good car. While it shows some age it also shows a well kept life
preserved well by a dry climate and caring owners.  The car is pure and honest
and really has a great vibe to it. Still a lot of originality remaining which is nice and it is certainly clean enough
to be very proud of no matter where you go.  California car since new...its getting harder and harder to find them like this.
