1971 VW Bus with 911 Porsche power for sale!
If I had a nickel for every story I have heard about someone with a VW that had a Porsche engine in it,
I would probably have quite a few bucks. The legend of such a swap has been told again and again
but so few have dared to do such a thing and to do it right.
This 911 Porsche powered Bus is the real deal, and it has been Porsche powered for longer than it had a VW engine in it.
The current owner and builder, one of the legendary Emory family members, first bought this bus over 27 years ago.
It has now been recently restored and fully rebuilt to a level far better than it ever was in its life.
This Bus is now pure poetry in motion and the finish quality is superb.
Not the image you normally see when you lift the lid on a 71 Bus!
That is a rare fuel injected 2.4 6 cylinder Porsche 911 engine from 1973 1/2.
A very low production motor, one of the first to use the K-Jetronic CIS injection systems from Bosch.
Here is a little detail spec sheet on the Bus...
My favorite part is the top speed calculation of 123mph at 5500rpm.
The owner/builder also mentioned the engine is good for upwards of 8000 rpm...do the math on that!
This was no backyard build by the way.
This Bus was built by Ken Emory. The Emory family and Porsche are deeply connected.
Ken's brother Gary of Porsche Obsolete fame and Gary's son Rod Emory are known worldwide
for their Porsche creations and Ken himself is certainly within the fold. Over 40 years of Porsche experience
from working at Chick Iverson Porsche in Newport Beach as well as running Porsche related businesses
until today. This guy knows Porsche, and the build on this Bus is nothing short of spectacular.
Recaro seats up front upholstered in the Porsche herringbone material and black.
Dash is covered in black leather, door sill trims adapted from Porsche 911 parts.
Rear seats are factory VW but done in the Porsche materials
Seat belts at all seating positions.
I love the early 911 style gas drip flap...nice touch!
Pasint and body quality is superb.
Desirable factory sunroof Bus, and it has all been fully rebuilt.
Excellent late model sliding windows are a great addition.
Rear window jail bars sourced from an earlier model, bead blasted and clear coated for a slick machine like finish.
Under the rear mat is a well fabricated access panel sourced from a Type 3 VW.
Servicing the flat 6 is a breeze with this hatch open!
Spotlessly sanitary in here and it runs superb!
Looks factory...such a sweet install of the engine and all the accessories.
Fantastic!
Matching spare wheel and tire
Show quality exterior
Mirror straight and excellent fit and finish to all parts.
Porsche crest on the nose.
Gorgeous
Check out the custom dash with a full array of Porsche instruments.
Floors and chassis were all sprayed with a high impact bedliner type material that not only protects the panels
but provides sound deadening and some insulation.
Very cleanly finished top and bottom.
Mild stance, this is an adult toy, one made to be driven and enjoyed.
Well engineered for performance and ride.
As an example of the lengths gone to do it right...the shocks were custom built
by Bilstein specifically for the Bus for all four corners to balance it and support the additional weight
and forces from the Porsche drivetrain.
Original Chick Iverson Porsche plate frame and a great personalized plate.
Genuine factory Porsche 16 x 6 wheels fully polished and detailed by Al Reed.
Under the engine is spotless as well.
Well tuned exhaust using the factory heat exchangers and a stainless header and exhaust pipe that dumps out
under the bumper very stealthily. Sounds amazing!!
Yeah baby!
I so love craziness like this...especially when it is professionally executed.
There is really no good reason to do such a swap, other than for the fun of it.
The cost is so high for Porsche parts, the engine itself is an easy 20k these days.
So awesome!
Porsche 911 SC front disc brakes.
Everything cleanly undercoated as a factory style job would be.
Nice use of fresh hardware in spots.
Porsche gearbox as well, built by the skilled hands at Rancho.
Wagons West sourced front beam
I love those Porsche 16's on this...just a bit beefier looking than the normal 15" Fuchs
and that balances out very well visually with the size of the vehicle.
Scat shifter.
Dash finish is awesome...this is not the cheesy looking foam pad it came with!
Porsche tool kit
Leather strap on the spare is another nice touch.
Colors are beautiful, very subtle and understated.
Sweet
Matching hat included
Instruments are fully functional
Its impressive all the way around.
This is not just another run of the mill VW
This is a Porsche with a well tailored VW Bus suit.
Built by a high level Porsche mechanic with no stone left un-turned.
Its a one of a kind.
