1960 VW Single Cab Transporter For Sale

This Southern California based faded beauty is a pretty special truck.
Very solid original example with fantastic patina, a restored interior and drive train
that makes it comfortable and enjoyable to drive.

Its been gone through by some truly skilled VW Bus "Gurus" and was built for
use as a vintage motorcycle hauler for actor Ewan McGregor who has a great collection
of cars and bikes.

Here is Ewan with the truck. Its been in his stable for quite a few years now and its been decided
that a few less machines means more time to spend with the ones that mean the most to him.
We have three VWs from the McGregor collection up for grabs here and each one of them is pretty darn cool.

The patina on an old truck just fits so perfect and with the details done to transform it from
a barn find to a well loved and fully usable truck have been pretty extensive.

Bumpers, wheels and nose emblem have been repainted.
Headlight assemblies and all electricals sorted and restored.

New window and door rubbers as well as the felts for the sliding windows.

The bed and gates are shockingly straight and untouched original finish.

The bed still has the wood slats and the gates open and latch smoothly.

Correct 15" Bus wheels with excellent Firestone rubber and cleanly done painted hubcaps.

Body is very solid on this truck!
A sight down the drivers side rocker panel shows the original paint un-welded body.

The side gates as well...so straight and untouched. Pretty amazing.

The rear engine lid and apron have been painted, and one small spot on the drivers side wheel arch
just under the door, the rest appears to be all original finish.

The body is not without its flaws...there are a few dings and dents and this crack on the rear corner.

The roof and nose have faded through to the point of being almost entirely brown from
light surface rust. The metal however is super solid and the rain gutters
and all the normal trouble spots for rust on these trucks look impressively solid.

Passenger side door shows more blue than most other panels...perhaps it was protected somehow
or was possibly swapped at some point long ago?

Single sided treasure chest door on this truck.
There were some that had doors on both sides, but that is pretty uncommon.

The bed is one of the straightest original beds I have ever seen
in one of these trucks...this was not used for crazy loads like so many have been.

I love the patina and natural age on the latches and details.

Passenger side rocker panel also looks super solid.

Our German chassis inspector Charlie took a good long look underneath and proclaimed it solid.

Very solid outriggers and jacking points.
Surface rust perhaps but I saw no rust perforation or any areas needing welding.

Good dog.

The treasure chest below the bed is also super solid and houses a super cool
custom ramp for loading motorcycles in the back that was built specifically for the truck.

The jack stands help support the wide aluminum ramp that are tucked in behind them.
A wheel chock set up is also in here as well as straps and such to hold the big bikes.

Here is the ramp assembled and ready for loading.

Wide enough that you can ride a big heavy old cycle up and have your feet down to keep balance.

And loaded up!
Straps attach to factory spots on the truck so no modification has been done to the truck
to make this happen.

Inside of treasure chest door

Engine was rebuilt as well as the transmission.
A full synchromesh gearbox has been installed and the truck does well on the road
even with a load. No big leaks or anything silly, this has always been extremely well maintained.

Very clean stock engine with the only modifications being 12 volt electrics.

Nice details, quality parts, everything functions as it should.

Nice to see a proper German Bosh distributor and Pierburg fuel pump.
No cheesy aftermarket bits.

Case was a new un-stamped unit and was professionally built and tuned.

Looks solid in the engine room

Even the battery side of things looks pretty dreamy

Good runner and driver. Still has the manual choke and oil bath air cleaner.

A few dings and dents on the passenger side rear corner
but its all been put back in place quite well.

Correct taillights and the electrics all work.

Interior has received some very nice attention to make it very livable and attractive.
New headliner panels with original strips.

Dashboard itself has been repainted in the factory dove blue, the steering wheel restored, speedometer rebuilt
and all controls attended to.

Original details such as the floor mat were retained

Factory "M" Code tag is present.

Matching spare wheel and tire.

New kick panels installed.

Radio block off plate and painted ashtray...clean and simple.

Seat has been very nicely reupholstered.
Other interior paint appears original and in great shape.

Sorry for the turned pic...but this is drivers side floor under the mat...still original finish and solid!

New seat belts installed

Very clean

There are some rubber plugs nect to the window in back...I assume it had some sort of
protective grille or bars to keep the load off the glass?

A little bit of rust on one of the gate bottoms

Love that faded wood and amazingly straight bed!

Window rubbers and felts were all replaced

Owners manual

Current clean title and registration in Ewan's name.

Speedometer was restored during the build and the odometer reset.
It shows 4190 miles on it currently which is thought to be correct since the
rebuild and assembly of the truck

Passenger side floor under the mat...dreamy

Fresh air box flap was redone as well and it functions as it should.

Some more bed details

Nose is super straight and solid

Great old truck!

California year of manufacture plates come with the truck.

Hard to find them this straight and this solid

Here you can see the one spot on the top right corner of the wheel arch here that was repaired
and touched up. As much original finish as possible has been retained.

Good glass and window rubbers

This is a great truck.
A very solid original that has been very well sorted and professionally done to make it a
wonderful and very usable utility vehicle. Neat patina, fun celebrity history
and if you are someone that can get proper use from that amazing custom ramp
that makes it an even cooler thing to add to your collection.
