1966 VW Beetle Sedan DKP Club Car For Sale

SOLD!

Here in Southern California we have a long history with VWs and
it seems that the whole world looks to So Cal for inspration on what is cool.
Back in the early days of VW performance innovation, a lot of it came from
Southern California and Orange County to be more specific.
One of the most highly respected VW clubs in the area has been, and still is
the Der Kleiner Panzers, or DKP.
Back in the 70's they made a name for themselves as an exclusive club for the
fastest and cleanest VWs around, and that tradition holds true today.
If you are a part of the club, you have to have the right stuff!

This is a club member's car, a Beetle that he has owned for 20 years
and it represents a classic example of the style and performance
that all members follow. Its a "look" that is timeless...clean, simple and blisteringly fast.

This is a 66 model Beetle...a very solid California car.
Very stock exterior trimming, but the T bar bumpers , Porsche wheels and mild lowering
give it all the attitude it needs.

Very very clean car, the restoration was done years ago, but it still
looks fresh thanks to proper care and quality workmanship.

It is a European model car to begin with which is kinda cool...really minimal differences,
the locking steering column and ignition being one of the nicest details on the Euro cars.

The interior is very clean and done in a very nice contrasting red with tweed inserts on the seats.

Door panels are excellent, carpet is nice.

Kilometer speedo  is another Euro delivery detail.
The Empi GT steering wheel is a legitimate original and you can just catch the original sticker
on the hub in this image.

Under dash is very clean...you can see the monster tach and shift light here in the photo and the very cool little
under dash light. The locking steering column is visable here as is the Berg 5 speed shifter (yes  Berg 5 speed!)

Seats look great, door jams are very clean, nice level of detail which is a trademark of the club.
You can see the club logo sticker in the window here.

Rear seat looks nice as well...probably never a butt back here.

Headliner is very clean.

Nice fit, smooth and proper, original sun visors it look like.

The detailing continues under the hood.

Very clean and well sorted up here.

Spare tire well is straight with no issues...not perfectly detailed as you can see here, but no issues.

Euro style Porsche 911 headlight lenses are another subtle change.

Wiring is very tidy.

These are the genuile article, the early 4.5" alloys up front and the deep 6's in back, fully show detailed
and painted with full color emblem center caps. Pirelli Cinturato 145-15 tires up front.

Big Michelin tires wrapping the rear.

Convertible decklid with the vents allows for some added cooling.
A short stand off at the apron keeps the lid slightly open to clear the carbs and such.
Black California plates and an Econo Motors plate frame!

Under the lid is very clean. Quick release hinge pins for easy removal.

Ahh...the engine. That has always been the focal point of a DKP car
Always clean, minimal chrome and packing a punch!

Gene Berg 5speed trans behind this motor w/ 388 ring and pinion,
Gene Berg locking shifter, Sway away adjustable spring plates.
2275 cc displacement, dms  crank 82x94,
11:1 compression, fk89 cam,
High Output heads redone by Heads Up Performance,  with 44x37 valves.
5.5. eagle rods, Weber 48ida carburators on skat traks manifolds,
MSD  distributor. with Nology coil.

End result... fast car... blow away V8 fast.
(insert maniacal laughter here)

Exhaust is a very slick and low key unit with stainless muffler.

Deep sump and full ceramic coated header, stainless braided lines for the e

The Berg 5 speed trans is fully built to handle the horsepower that the engine puts out.
If you have never driven a Berg 5, you really should experience it.
From that point forward you will always be reaching for that "extra gear"!

Front end features dropped spindles and disc brakes.
No crazy narrowing or anything like that.

Chassis is very solid.

Not a pansy-ass detailed chromed out show car underneath...oh sure it is a nice quality car
but the focus is on overall appearance and of course performance.
This is a serious car, not a fashion accessory.

A rare opportunity to buy one of the vehicles from the "inner circle" of the DKP.
I know it is just a club with a bunch of VW guys no different than anyone else,
but there is an aura about the club that is there for a reason.
Does it mean this car is better than all the rest? No... it doesnt.
But it does mean that the car is not your average "looker".
It is truly "show" and "go".
