1959 VW Beetle EV Conversion For Sale

This pretty little 1959 Beetle comes to us from the state of Virginia
where its owner did a full body off restoration and EV conversion  quite a few years ago
and he parked it in 2012.  Its been sitting ever since and its time to find it a new home.

The car has a great look to it and has been well stored out of the elements.

Nice polished 5 spoke aluminum wheels

Looks like a pretty normal old Beetle really, but its got a secret hiding under that pretty exterior.

Before we dig in deep, lets look back at where it all started.

The owner went all out with the restoration, getting the body down to a bare shell
and painting everything inside and out.

Brakes and suspension were all done and detailed at the time.

Here is a fun pic of the rolling chassis before the body was put back on.

Interior was done in olive green with ivory piping

New carpetsm door panels, headliner, upholstery and padding at the time as well.

Odometer shot.

Additional gauges under the dash

Headliner was home installed and shows it...but it is all very clean.

Definitely some wrinkles here and there.

No rear seat in the car as the batteries for the EV conversion take up that space.

The batteries have all aged in storage and need to be replaced at this point
but the owner can help with this if needed (at your cost),
It is currently not operational but the motors and electricals are all good.

The electric motor was sourced through EV West in California
as was all the conversion kit.  EV West is one of the leaders in this
industry and are still cranking these set ups out.|They now are using improved lithium batteries
rather than the lead acid golf cart batteries in the car currently.

Additional batteries and the wiring all sits up front.

Again...these batteries have aged and need replacement or better yet, upgrading
to the more efficient and lighter lithium units.

The hood and front fenders of the car are fiberglass
to help with weight and strength.  The rest of the body remains
the original VW steel.

Paint looks nice!

Underside of the chassis is very clean and solid

Very solid

A peek in the front fender well shows the undercoated wheel house and the fiberglass front fenders.

Glass and rubber is all in great shape

Overall it looks to be a pretty nice amateur restoration.
The EV conversion to was a home job, but done with a kit from one of the industry's finest.
Certainly some upgrading would be wise and a little tidying up of the wiring and interior around it all.

The EV conversion kit these days runs nearly $20,000.
Replacement batteries for the system as it is will run probably $1500.

This car is a great buy for someone that wants to take the project to the next level.
Considering the money and time invested in the build, even though it
was parked in 2012, I just don't see how you could build something similar
for anywhere near the asking price.

Asking
$9,950 obo
(as is, batteries not included)
