OK...this one is fun.
At first glance it looks like your average well worn Beetle.
And cosmetically, you would be right.
But underneath that mild exterior lies a monster.
This is the textbook "sleeper".
The car is a California car since new, but now residing in Miami Florida.
It has been there for less than a year and has been garaged the whole time
and out of the elements
so it remains a very dry and solid example.
It just plain hauls butt.
This car is a stomper...while it has not been strip run, I would guess it
to be
a pretty solid 13 second quarter mile car by the seat of my pants feel...if
not a bit faster.
This is of course just a "guesstimate"...your results may vary, professional
driver on closed course...do not try this at home.
The body is solid but the paint is poor...lots of chips and scratches and
little dings.
The car has never bit hit hard anywhere tough...just little bruises.
The only hint that there is anything other than normal with the car is the
fat rear tires.
The engine lid closes normally over the performance engine...the exhaust
is tucked deep under the car.
The interior is super stock and normal.
Original paint on the dash, original panels on the doors.
Stock wheel and shifter.
The body is super solid...
The chassis is as well...no welding ever needed...alll original sheetmetal
Auxillary oil filter
Deep sump under the engine.
The trans is a KCR Pro Street unit
with 4.12 Ring and Pinion, 3.78 1st gear, 2.16 2nd, 1.52 3rd and .89 4th
Super diff, Erco heavy duty side plates
welded hubs, steel forks and hardened keyways
Super Beetle main shaft and Cromoly pinion retainer.
It also has the Aircooled bullet proof clutch cable.
In short...a bomber set up trans wise!
Engine specs to come in a moment...but rest assured that this beefy trans
is well suited for what powers it!
Fender beading and some rubber has been painted over.
The car is no show car by any means, but if you wanted to restore it cosmetically
it is a super nice base car to work with.
The big fat Mickey Thompson meats under the back give great traction.
The A-1 sidewinder exhaust sounds great and tucks in nicely under the body
so it looks totally normal from outside.
No heater in this one.
The Scat 2 quart deep sump
Very solid and straight inner fenders...never hit front or back
The tires fit...just barely.
The rear drums are studded, and the hubcaps have been drilled to allow for
clearance.
Solid under the battery
Pans are very good
Fender wells are very solid as well
Looking good!
Under the hood is original and slightly scruffy
Wiring is all original and in good shape.
Door jams are very solid
Dash paint is original and looks very nice.
Radio block off plate in place...no radio ever installed in this dash.
Newer carpet kit in average shape...
The bamboo parcel tray is a nifty gadget.
Seats are in decent shape with no big rips or major wear.
Headliner is original and has some rips here and there.
Headliner pretty well sun cooked under the rear window.
Seats are good though.
Door seals are baked...
Glass is all good.
Pop out rear quarter windows.
Bumpers feature aged chrome and plenty of little dings!
Looks like one split in the bottom of the spare tire well.
Plenty of stone chips and paint fade... the hipsters call this "Patina" !
Step back though and she is not bad to look at.
Engine specs on a sheet in the glove box
Mallory ignition...
Here is a stealth little set up...the ashtray knob controls the line-loc
for the front brakes!
OK...I know you have been waiting for the engine details...that being one
of the BIG selling points of this whole deal...
Well...it does have an engine...you can see it here...it doesnt really look
much different than most...
Distributor...hea it has one.
Fan shroud...yeah...has one of those too...
One of them nifty deck lid prop dealies to keep the lid from busting your
head open...
OK OK...I will stop jerking your chain.

So what does this all mean?
Well, when the engine was first assembled it was fitted with Kadron carbs
and was run on the dyno and acheived
165 Horsepower and 145 ft lb of torque at 5500 rpm.
The engine builder estimated that the fittment of the Dellorto carbs would
add 10% to these numbers!
So...yes...it is fast!
And all hidden under the lid...
"Happiness is being a Grandparent"
Put on your grey hair wig and go blow off some Corvettes at the stop lights!
So in closing what we have here is a very solid fairly original and kinda
worn 64 Beetle
with a serious performance and dang near new drivetrain from front to back!
Look up the costs of this sort of engine and trans and you will see that
you are almost buying the engine and getting the car for free!
Great fun for not much money!
