1965 VW 21 Window Deluxe Microbus For Sale

SOLD!

Truly one of the most beloved models of the whole VW range, the sunroof Deluxe Microbus
has been a hot property for a long time. Shocking record prices at auction set the car extremely high
a number of years ago and as a result the market went wild and a whole industry emerged in
importing, converting and restoring old Busses to capitalize on the trend.
While the flooded market cooled the flames just a bit, I am seeing the genuine article factory German
examples restored correctly retain their value and remain in high demand.

This is one that is "real" and is well worth looking close at.

The "provenance" behind the examples on the market is increasingly important to the smart collector
and having the birth certificate from VW in Germany and all the right tags and numbers in place
is what you want to search for. As you can see above, this one has its "papers" and is the real deal.

March 15th 1965 production leaving for the port of Baltimore two days later.
Its original and desirable Velvet Green and Blue White color combination is how it was
refinished during its restoration. Originally with the grey mesh interior, during restoration
this was redone in the stunning platinum mesh combination that was normally found
on the Titian Red examples, but is super beautiful against the green.

The original option code tag remains in place behind the front seat

Anyway, moving forward here the seller has really flooded us with a ton of detailed pics of this Bus
that will really show you the ins and outs of it.
They are a little mixed up, so bear with me here, but scroll on through to the bottom of the page
and gander at them all...you will certainly see that this is a very nicely done example
that would be a great addition to any collection.

Walk thru front seats is a super desirable option on these and this one has that!
This Bus also features the full width center seat rather than the originally supplied
3/4 seat, making it suitable for 8 occupants.

Some nice accessories and upgrades.
Safari front windshields, performance shifter with pull ring reverse lock out and shorter throw.

Very cleanly finished inside.

Gorgeous

Super cool switch identification rings from Project Therapy.

All fresh matching seat belts well installed with new hardware

Belts in all seating spots

Super clean

Very nicely done headliner

Clean in the door jams and deep corners

Correct Golde sunroof handle

These fun labels on the dash are magnets...easily removable

Radio block off plate installed with a nice rubber backing to avoid any marring of the paint finish below
so if you ever wanted to install a radio, it could be done without potential paint issue.

The underside of theis Bus is super clean as well

Wow

1600cc single port engine installed that was fully rebuilt and
tastefully finished to look factory stock.
12 volt electrics as a welcome upgrade

Very clean!
Very minimal miles obviously and kept spotless by its owner

Floors are superb

A couple of odd details to tease the purists with such as the early "large nut"
on the generator and a red painted dipstick (which was a 1960 only detail)

So clean...looks great!

Stock exhaust

Mega solid and clean underneath.

Impressively clean

The restoration on this Bus was done in the early 2000's but you would never
guess it by looking at it...it really looks fresh!
It was reportedly a part of a museum and private collection for several years.

Great color combination!

Love the whitewalls and stock 14" wheels with correct dome caps and trim rings.

The wood slat "Westfalia" style roof rack has become an iconic option

Those safari windows too are "gotta have" options for the well dressed microbus.

Some great restoration shots in the photo mix here.
Restoration was done in the early 2000's

The majority of the beauty shots here were taken in 2022 when the Bus was sold at auction.
At the time it was located on the east coast, but it is currently located in Southern California
and has a clear California title.

This is a current shot of it in the owner's garage.

Stunning

West Coast Classic interior...one of the best!

Done right and kept well since completion

Current image...still as impressive today as when the current owner took delivery in 2022

What a gorgeous Bus!
It really looks wonderful to me and I think whoever ends up taking this one home
will be a very fortunate and happy new owner for it.
