1955 Barndoor Samba For Sale
In the world of VW Bus collecting there is nothing more highly prized than
the Barndoor "Samba". These were the earliest of the breed that stopped very early in 1955.
Production was quite limited. There are less than 12 known 1955 Barndoor Sambas documented to
be in existence today according to the Barndoor Registry and this one is one of the last of its model on the list.
Production stopped of the Barndoor models on Feb 28th 1955.
This one rolled off the line Feb 16th.
It was delivered to Porsche Austria the next day and was sold to its first owner through the VW dealer in Innsbruck.
It remained in the the mountains of Austria until 1990
at which point it was sold to a collector in the UK where a partial restoration and repaint was done.
It has now returned to Europe and rests in the hands of a private collector.
This one is a very nice well documented example back to day one with the original matching numbers engine and all the right details.
Original paperwork, manuals and hand crank are all here, even the original plexi corner windows.
It has always been "together" and retains a wonderful originality feeling to it.
The paint is not original but so much of the rest is, best of all it is extremely well documented, this is a Bus with no questions.
The fine details all seem to be in place and are all original to the Bus.
Nice original finish on the fuel tank.
