1974 VW Thing For Sale
This Southern California based VW Thing is a very impressive original
survivor that has recently gone through a very extensive refurbishment process to make it
a truly ready to go adventure machine for street or trail.
The condition of the car is impressive and the paint appears to be original
on the vast majority of the body and it shines still like new.
The only spots I found that show signs of any paint work were on the passenger side of the body
with possibly both fenders and the front quarter panel showing signs of refinish.
Original taillight lenses
drivers side and the rest of the body all look to be impressively well preserved original paint.
The engine has been recently rebuilt and upgraded and runs extremely strong.
Larger tires on black 5 spoke rims give it a nice clean and rugged look.
No modified suspension or strange body changes, it remains very stock and proper overall
Some nice Thing accessories such as the bumper guards, running boards and front hood luggage bar
Chrome is bright, all rubber is nice
Excellent BF Goodrich all terrain tires.
H4 headlights

This is passenger side rear fender,,,signs of some paint touch up with just a tad little overspray on the fender bead.

Top up or down it just looks awesome wherever you park it.
It has a couple small paint chips, but no major damage
Top is new and an excellent fit.
Comes with the matching top boot as well
Details are so pleasing as you look deeper into this car.
It really is one of the best original bodies that I have seen.
Some nice upgrades such as added instrumentation and cup holders!
Modern Retro-sound stereo hides behind a factory appearing Volkswagen face plate
Gauge box is a custom fabricated item that also has a small locking stash box on the side...very fun!

Great stock and original dash, new wood "duck boards" on the floor
54,000 miles and change on the odometer which I would bet are original to the car.

All original stickers and tags remain in place,,,more signs of its pampered originality.
Side curtains look brand new

Super clean and solid in the deep corners.
Underneath is original and untouched for the most part
except for the parts that make it go...new CV joints, shocks, brakes, etc.
A1 Performance exhaust is a high quality item

Engine displacement is now 2007cc, freshly built with top quality parts

Massive stack of receipts and details on the build included in the sale
This binder has all the major receipts and info on the car.
The majority of the work was done by Kevin Kay Restorations.
The one receipt from KKR shows a total of over $40k!
Great documentation of the parts and services done to the car as you look through it all
This is a copy of the bill of sale when the previous owner bought it...this was BEFORE
the investment of over 40k worth of parts and labor to bring it to the condition it is in now!

I love the fact that it is mostly original paint and it has been so well sorted
out and upgraded. This is a car that will give you a very long life of fun and adventure.
