The "Rally Oval"

One of the most influential dealers in the US in the early days of VW and Porsche was
Brundage Motors in Florida.
Not only were they a prime new car dealer, they were also heavy into racing.

This man, Hubert Brundage was the leader of the business and his interest in
racing and his ties with VW and Porsche led to some pretty amazing things.
They say that Brundage was one of the key men behind the creation of the Porsche Speedster model
and eventually his race team (Brumos Porsche) went on to be one of the most unstoppable forces out there.

While Brundage and team were most known for the Porsche racing efforts...
what would have happened if they built a VW based racer back in the day?

A car tuned with the performance parts of the day and a few bits off the Porsche parts sheves...
What would you have?

Well...our imagination took the best of us there ad as a tribute to Brundage and the amazing mark they made
on the face of VW and Porsche in the US...a project was born.
The Brundage Motors Rally Oval.

The car started out as a freshly restored 55 model Beetle that a customer of ours
found for sale here in California.
This was a body off restoration car...all clean and all done.
But not as fun as it could be!

Since the owner of the car was based in Florida, the Brundage theme came up and we went with it.
Porsche 356 style wheels on aluminum brum covers gives it that racer look.
The big Bosch Rally lights and Porsche Speedster headlight grilles...

Out back the freshly rebuilt 36 horse engine was tuned and tweaked with one of Wolfsburg West's
Okrasa engine jits, with new heads, intakes and dual carbs.
(a fantastic set up by the way...man this runs sweet!)

Abarth style 4 tip exhaust gives it that racing soundtrack and looks cool too.

The lettering was all painted by hand, just as it would have been in the 1950's
and the craftsmanship is superb!
The address on the side is correct for the first Brundage store back in the 50's.

Again, all hand painted logos and lettering...fantastic!

The car truly has a unique look to it and the whole plan was to keep it looking period correct for the era.
The response to the car was very strong and it is indeed a crowd pleaser!

The Mobil flying horse logo is hand painted as well!!

The wood slat roof rack holds the spare and a tool box.
This is a sunroof car, but a two fold sunroof as fitted to 56-63 models.

Bosch plug, Koni Shock and Heuer Chronograpg stickers in the quarter window.

Interior is fitted with nice racing belts and a Porsche centered Banjo steering wheel.
Everything is super clean and as new inside and out.
This was a complete restoration and it was well done.

Detail of the seatbelts.

The "Okrasa" dual carb set up is fantastic and the engine room is very clean and tidy.

Proper design mesh air cleaners...very cool.
The underside of the car is very clean as well...no rust anywhere.
This was a body off restoration.
Quality wise it is very nice...not "over the top" but very nice indeed.

The car is currently located in Florida and can be seen by appointment only.
The photo above shows the car as it sits today with only a couple of very small changes made to it.
One being a slight front end ajustment to get the front end down a bit, and mesh style headlight grilles instead of the Speedster style on the
car in the other images. It has been well kept and improved upon since delivery and is a turn key driver...ready for fun!
