1957 VW Beetle Ragtop Sedan For Sale

SOLD!!

This beautiful Oval Sunroof is really a jewel.
The color is called Diamond Green and it really is fantastic.
There were a lot of great colors in this era, but this one is hard to beat.

This car has received a full body off restoration a few years back.
The car has been driven very minimally since complettion and remains is excellent condition.

Quality parts used in the build and a nice attention to detail.

Front is free of stone chips or damage...she is clean!

US spec car with the bullet turn signals and towel rail bumpers.

Lights all work properly

The correct taillights are on the car...this style used from 56-61.

Really a beautiful vision with the wide whitewalls, paint color and the top and interior as well.
Quite pretty indeed!

Here is your postcard shot!

The engine in the car was rebuilt at 19,000 miles

Last valve adjustment was done at 21160

Current mileage is 21,613.
This car runs and drives fantastic, so tight and solid on the road.
The weakest part of the drive experience is the original style bias-ply tires
which are a little wiggly compared to today's radial tires...but you cant beat the look!

Original glove box
(no gloves though...)

Ashtray.

Original VW key

Speaker grille is clean and pretty...radio block off plate in place.

The steering wheel does have a couple of fine cracks.

Horn push shows minor age.

Technically I think the speedometer should have the clear needle for 57, not the white one
but the instrument is in wonderful condition.

Handles are all clean and nice.... more on the interior in a little bit...

The car is super straight and solid underneath.
As mentioned before, this was a body off restoration.

Floorpans are superb.

All clean and dry underneath.
Transmission is a synchromesh unit that shifts well and is smooth running.

The photos show the car beautifully, hard to imagine a car this nice!
But I cant say the paint is "perfect"...there are a couple of very minor flaws if you look super close.

I tried to capture this one on the rear fender but couldnt see it with the camera...just a super small scratch.
I saw a couple spots in the paint where the clear coat looks a little thick or something...Im trying to be picky here
just so there are no surprises...the car is gorgeous, but like ANY car if you look hard enough you will find a flaw.

Interesting windshield squirter.

That Oval Window...so yummy!

Also in the super picky catagory, looking close at the stampings of the rear fenders where they bolt to the body, it looks like they
are not the originals to the car but slightly later models...the fit is superb though and only a real "tool" like myself would ever point it out!

The top is in canvas in a wonderful tan color that matches the interior very well.

Latches are clean and tidy.

Headliner on the sunroof section is perhaps just the slightest bit loose on the edges.
Its in excellent shape, but I have seen tighter installations
(there I go again being a picky guy...sorry)

Sunroof handle is fantastic and I must say the sunroof mechanism
works better than any I have slid back in recent day...it works very smooth and fits great.

And with that sunroof open this is the dream car of so many VW nuts!

Body is super straight and smooth...doors open and shut well...fenders fit nice...well sorted.

Here is a shot that shows the rear fenders from the inside...the original rear fenders would have
a different stamping along the edge where it bolts to the body.  This is not a big deal to anyone
but the most extreme purist...but Im pointing it out just the same.

The car is fantastically straight and solid though.
Looking closely it appears that the fenderwells were painted body color and then
the undercoating applied over that...so it is not on there thick and does not appear to be hinding anything
like I have seen on other restorations now and then.

The pans and heater channels are wonderful.

Very nice.

Nice to see the inside of the wheels painted too...it is little spots like this that people often blow past.
There is a super slight little scratch/scuff on the front apron here (in the center of the photo)
I think it may buff out if you gave it a shot.

Suspension is clean and not caked with grease.

Very nice.
Not "over-restored" for showing with mirrors underneath it...but still very respectable.

Front fender well.

Joining of the running board to the front fender...nice fit!

All the window rubber and body seals are fresh and in great shape.

The interior is excellent.
I believe this is from West Coast Classics here in So Cal looking at the door panels and overall quality.
They really do the best stuff these days and offer great kits like this to work with.

Love that dash.
Now the steering wheel on this car technically is a 55 or slightly older.
A correct 57 wheel with horn push is included in the sale though so you could swap it out if desired.

Great color combination dont you think?

Underside of the engine looks clean and dry...not a leaker.

Another pan shot...dont you wish they were all this solid?

The engine room is very clean and the thing runs like a sewing machine!
This engine is a 40 horsepower 1200cc.
The original engine would have been an 1100cc 36 horsepower unit.

If you are the type of person that this matters to.. a good running, cleanly detailed used 36 horse engine
can be exchanged for this 40 horse and installed prior to delivery.
Keep in mind that this 40 horse is a fresh rebuild and it runs superb...so personally from a driver standpoint...I'd keep it as is.
But I respect the desire to keep things as original as possible as well which is why the exchange is being offered.

If you wanted both engines...this too could be arranged for the right price!

The engine is still 6 volts and features a rebuilt generator, a new carb, fuel pump and distributor.
It was rebuilt properly and it really runs superb.

Oil bath air cleaner.

Overall engine room appearance is very nice.
Rear apron is the correct "H" pattern as well.

Underside of the engine lid.

Front apron too is correct style

Matching whitewall on the spare.

Front trunk area is very clean and well detailed.

Body number and body tags (nicely restored)
The zip-tie on the fluid resevoir helps keep that rubber cap down...obviously NOT a factory deal there!

Nice and straight in the spare well.

Original jack in the holder.

Nice and clean.

Correct 4 tab hood and hinges with side support.

New wiring cover...and the wiring itself is very clean.

Fuel tank nicely painted...very glossy.

Spare looks to have never been on the ground.
The trires on the car have fantastic tread as well, but the whitewalls when you look very close do have some cracking.

Rear seat looks great...seat back has the correct grey hard board backing with the metal support strips.

Grab handles and coat hooks.

A couple of slight wrinkles if you are super picky and just a shade of discoloration along the top seam there above the window.

Sun visors for both driver and passenger.

Rubber mats and carpet are clean and well fit.

Seats look great and are very comfortable as well.
Seat frames are cleanly painted as well.

I love how tight the door packets are on the stuff from WCC...so nice.

Here you can see the Firestone wide whitewalls...they show a bit of age if you look close, but have great tread and
are the perfect choice for a vintage car like this!

Handles and trim are excellent.

Love that sunroof!

Glass and rubber is excellent.

What a beautiful car.

Wolfsburg crest on the hood.

Passenger side mirror is an accessory item.

Im salivating looking at these pictures...are you?
This is a yummy little VW!

In closing this is a nice car...make that very nice.
It is not flawless, but it is stunning just the same.
Well built, very solid, runs and drives as nice as it looks.
This is going to be a huge crowd draw at the shows or in any collection.
