1959 Beetle Ragtop Show Stopper

This wild ride was built back a few years ago by a local So Cal builder as a full show machine to
market his business as a car audio installer. It was a no-holds-barred build with the best of everything.
It was featured in numerous magazines including on the cover of Hot VW's Magazine

A Hot VWs Cover Car!
It was also featured in several forms throughout the audio world in print and online.
Here are a couple links worth looking at..

The car has also won numerous awards at the shows and is a pretty stunning bit of work.

The car is fairly stock in body and trim and has some nice accessories installed.
The major modifications have been in suspension and interior.

The car has been driven very minimally since completion, it spent most of it's time on the showroom floor
of the audio store that built it. A couple years back it was sold to a local collector and it has been in his garage
the whole time with occasional jaunts to the market or to a local car show.

The studio photos here were obviously not taken by me...and they show the car as it was when freshly built.
Photos down deeper in the page are current day shots of how the car is now.
It has been well treated and still looks great. The only real noteable flaw was a couple scratches on the decklid
which the current owner has stored in his garage...running it without the lid to show off the engine.

The wood slat roof rack and matching decklid rack are still with the car.

Here is a current day image of the car in the owners garage...still sweet as can be.

The car has an air ride suspension by Airkewld and their custom disc brake set as well.
The wheels are pretty wild but fit nicely into the fender wells.

Swan neck mirrors (as available through our online store)

Billet aluminum running boards, pop out quarter windows, chrome roof rack (and matching decklid rack)

Wheels and tires are quite the sweet package.

The engine compartment is stunning and the detail is very pretty.
The engine tins have an almost chrome like finish, but are purple...its a mind trip looking at it.
Displacement is a mild 1776cc, it was built for show, not for the races.

Nicely detailed in here...nice billet aluminum air cleaners on top of the dual carbs.

Competition Engineering billet crank pulley.
Billet dipstick, detailed hardware.

The interior is where the show really gets wild...just a peek in the back window gives you a glimpse.

Custom molded door panels are fantastic and the spider theme on the speaker grilles is very eyecatching.

Seats are very nicely done and in fantastic shape.

The door panels are a true work of art...gorgeous!

Gold plated escutcheons and billet knobs...many fine details.

Custom spider steering wheel is awesome!!

This doesnt look like a Beetle inside...does it?

Too cool!

VDO instrumentation with gold rings and ivory faces...wow!
Mileage on the odometer is 122 miles since completion of the restoration.

High end audio is throughout the car with reportedly over $9000 in equipment!
Many wild custom touches with the install including the rear seat bottom that is
motorized to lift up and expose the amplifiers!!

More gauges across the dash.

Speakers everywhere and all nicely trimmed and installed.

Under the front hood the madness continues with a video screen !

Very nicely trimmed panels up here...check out the gas tank and the chrome cap and sending unit !

Custom hood hinges and the chrome amps... nice touches.

Hood latches are chrome as well.

Pretty!

Suspension is all clean and detailed...a custom  diamond plate scuff guard under the apron is a functional touch.

Full tilt custom suspension with air ride.
Four wheel disc brakes with cross drilled rotors.

Chassis is clean and solid...undercoating just on the flat panels

Underside of the engine is still quite clean with just a hint of road grime that can easily be cleaned off for show.

Ceramic coated exhaust, nicely detailed fender wells.

Love that rolling stock!!

Paint is very nice quality!

Pop out quarter windows.

Roof rack is chrome and pretty!.

In closing this is a pretty amazing show car that has had major buckets of money and calendar pages of time
thrown into it. It was well received in the media and will continue to draw a crowd today.
Now it is up for sale at a fraction of the build cost.
A lot of car for the money!
