1961 VW Beetle Sunroof Sedan For Sale

This Washington State based Beetle is a pretty special car.
Restored about 20 years ago, but extremely well kept and cared
for,
it remains show ready and is a fun driver and collectors item that
anyone should be proud of.

The restoration was done with authenticity and originality in
mind.
No modifications were done and it features all the proper trim and
details.

Some nice period accessories have been added such as the VW logo
mudflaps
and rear bumper badging.

Very striking in its "whiteness" with the wide whitewalls
on two tone rims and the matching white sunroof.

The color appears to be L87 Pearlweiss (Pearl White)
which is a correct color available in 1961, and is the original
color for this car
based on the birth certificate letter from VW that is posted in
the pics below and comes with the car.

1961 was the final year for the glass lens tail lights before
switching to the larger plastic lens units.

There is some chrome wear to the taillight ring on this side

A little pitting on the push button portion of the drivers side
door handle as well.

Stainless vent visors on the doors are another nice period
accessory.

The "peanut" style turn signals were in use from 1958 through 1963

T handle deck lid with lock.

US spec bumpers with the over riders.
(European delivery cars had short bumper guards)

Glass is all good as are the rubber seals.
Also nice to see the correct window trim in place in the rubber

Hleadlights look great and I spy the correct Hella logo on the
glass

Cast metal Vintage VW Club of America badge is another very cool
add on.

Great door gaps and very nice finish to th body and paint.

Color matched fender beading also looks great

Another super cool accessory detail, a 100,000 KM award badge

Nice and clean under the apron

Sunroof cover is off white vinyl and is in very good condition.

When restored this was a body off, bare metal restoration
so even the fender wells were painted and detailed.

Pop out rear quarter windows are very nice originals with the
proper Sekurit glass

Even the turn signal lenses have the correct Hella logo.
Simgs like this are always confidence inspiring to me as they show
that the restorer was focused on using the right parts, not just
going with the cheapest.

Front bumper is fitted with yellow fog lights as well as an
accessory guard in the center.

Volkswagen scrip emblem and the Wolfsburg crest.
Also a nice handle guard trim to add a bit of protection and a
little "bling"

What a beauty eh?

Blumenvasen on the dash with a lovely flower, accessory parcel
tray and drink caddy basket.

Sunroof appears original to the car and has all the correct
details.

Headliner is done in the proper mohair cloth.
Sunroof handle is the correct original Golde logo part.

Seats are done in a nice light grey with ivory piping.
Seat frames were cleanly restored and new seat belts from
Wolfsburg West were installed
at the time of the restoration as well.

Some light staining and age at the back of the headliner below the
window
but other than that it all looks quite fresh and pretty in here.

Radio is a more modern unit fitted into a factory bezel

Speakers for the audio simply rest on the parcel tray.
The owner didnt have the heart to cut any holes or modify the car
just to have music.

Really clean and pretty in here and I love the added accessories
and the flower vase.

Carpet is a yarn bound edge nylon
with the correct grey rubber mat across the floors and tunnel.
(Its folded up on the drivers side in this shot to expose the
pedals a bit better

The bird's eye view of the interior through the sunroof.

Headliner looks great and is well fit

New sun visors installed as well

I like seeing details like the plastic caps over the screws in the
door jam.
All the stuff that a true VW fanatic makes sure to put back in
place during a restoration.

Door panels look great as well.

An overall view of the headliner with the sunroof closed

I also see an accessorry fuel tap extension fitted.
1961 I believe was the final year without a gas gauge , so the
fuel tap
below the dash operates a lever that opens up a small fuel reserve
then the tank runs low.

Accessory door corner trims on the door and door jam.
These "scuff plates" help take the impact of entry with shoes
rubbing across them

The door sill trims as well do the same...and these Wolfsburg
crest logo units are awesome.

Glove box looks to be an original fiber board unit.
Most of the replacements are a black plastic, so seeing an
original one is very cool.

Speedometer shot.
Looks like 74,394?
Actual mileage undocumented

The matching bolster pillows are another super cool addition.
These were something you would see in the early 50's Deluxe
Beetles.
I believe they were long discontinued by 1961 but they sure look
cool
and just fit in there loosely. Easily removed if desired, but I'd
absolutely leave them in there.

Under the rear seat the battery area is clean and solid.
It has been converted to 12 volts by the way.

Under the front hood looks clean and well painted too.

With the carpet liner out and the metal exposed you can see that
it was painted
completely during the restoration and even the fuel tank was
refinished.

Original jack is in its holder and the car has a washer bottle
installed as well

Clean and solid in here

Washer bottle has the VW logo on it, but seems a bit different
than later models
that had the air pressure fitting at the top.
Ive gotta do my research on this detail...its probably correct for
61?

Body tag

Wiring cover is the correct stuff

The hard board trunk liner is here too

Matching spare wheel and tire

Even clean on the back side

1200cc engine has been converted to 12 volt electrics.
Oil filter canister is an added period detail.
The car is said to run and drive well.
This is the original number matching engine case by the way and
it was fully rebuilt using many NOS original German parts

Rear apron is clean and the rubber seals and little bumper
thingies are where they should be.

Underneath the engine and transmission looks clean and dry.

Nice and dry

Chassis was all cleaned and treated.
Looks like one section replaced on the battery side of things
but sealed well and treated with a layer of Por 15 to keep it
solid.

Some surface rust in spots underneath but it all looks very solid
to me in these pics.

Front end detail shot

While not a "mirrors underneath it" show car, it does look fairly
respectable underneath.

Original manual and sales brochures

Letter from VW documenting the production information
original colors and info on engine and chassis numbers

Nice car, well done and well kept.

A happy little ragtop for sure that is undoubtedly going to bring
positive comments
wherever you go. A lot of car for the money, they are not often
this nice.
