1964 VW Bus For Sale

The classic 1960's VW Bus...there really is nothing else like it on the
road anywhere.
Just a glimpse of one gets the imagination flowing with images of the
past, from the hippie scene to the surf scene
the nostalgia that these vehicle dredge up is phenomenal. A cultural
phenomenon on wheels...it really is.

This one is located here in California, was purchased from a lady
in Berkeley prior to the restoration
and the plan for the restoration was to build a Bus that was perfect to
drive the coast in Santa Cruz
and go surfing with. As with many dreams in life, they often take turns
and twists and flashing forward about 10 years,
marriage and babies and a whole lot of work (and a hemmorage of money)
and the beautiful Bus you see here is now available for sale.

The restoration is nice but not "over the top".
This is what I would call a very nice "driver level" restoration.
Something that is certainly clean enough to draw a crowd but probably
no trophies at the shows.

It is the perfect color combination and is very stock and proper...not
lowered or customized.

This is what is called a "standard microbus" or for the window
counters...it is an 11 Window.

The interior is done very pretty and the colors are proper for the
exterior paint color...one of the best
combinations VW ever put on a bus.

Headliner is all new...the whole interior is as well.

Very clean and pretty.

There are a couple of "technically" incorrect things such as the fresh
air box being painted the green rather than white.
This is just little detail stuff that perhaps only the "purist" will
notice...
It also looks like there is some sort of silicone or something up along
the edge here?

Pretty inside though...love those colors.

The chassis of the Bus looks to be quite solid which is a big plus on
these old Busses.
A lot of them have serious rust issues or have had big repairs...this
one looks pretty sound!

Jack point and outrigger in this shot look fantastic.

Engine lid has a T handle, not original but it looks fine.

Headliner is nice

Center seat is actually from a slightly newer model, but it fits in
properly and looks the part...the painting of the handle and ashtray
back-date it visually which is a nice touch.

The floors under the mat look nice.

Pretty solid it is!

Seats all have new padding and are well done.

Fender wells have been sprayed black so it looks clean at first peek.

Some very minor fit details keep it from being "perfect" but it is
still very nice indeed.

Panel behind the front seat is painted green...kinda fun as it lines up
with the exterior body line on the outside,
but the door jams are painted white.

Very good running stock engine out back...12 volt electrics is a
very nice upgrade.

The wood slat roof rack is refinished and the rails and legs are
painted white.

Clean

Modern stereo mounted in the dash...and extra gauge as well.
Knobs and speedo pod are painted green

Originally there is a rubber trim that fits along this gap.

The doors must have had curtain rods at some point...you can see signs
of the holes.

I feel like I am picking the Bus apart with all these details, but I
guess it is better to point it ALL out and not have any surprises.
Overall I really like the vehicle a lot...when you see a nice solid
chassis like you see here...it sets the tone...it is a good Bus!

Floors look great, new rubber mat and some nice padding underneath it.

New door seals and all window seals.

Super smooth rockers...nice tires.

The engine has some color matching going on as well.
Great runner, very reliable.
The heater is not functional and the owner does state that
it does burn just a bit of oil...so it is obviously not a fresh motor.

Here is another inside detail shot...you can see the speaker box for
the stereo on the floor..
easy to remove and better than cutting holes in the panels!

Sweet!

Dash looks nice...steering wheel and horn button too...new visors.

Round dome light is not original but looks nice.

Very pretty inside and out.

I like the hula doll...nice touch!

Under the rear mat is a Dynamat type sound deadener material...this
really helps keep engine noise down.

I see the original jack down there in the spare tire well.
Nice little cover door for the stash spot/tool box area!

Clean California title.

Nice ride!

The owner has been really up front with any issues or details that are
not "perfect" and he has
sent detailed photos of these spots which helps inspire confidence in
it being everything it appears to be.
I mentioned the heater not working above, other issues to mention are
that the horn is not fuctioning and
he reports that on occasion during downshifting into 2nd gear, it will
pop out.
Shifting up and through the gears is not an issue and it drives great,
so he has left it as it is
and with my experience with these things it will probably continue like
this just fine for a long long time,
you just get used to that idiosynchracy... but if you wanted to repair
this, obviously it could be done.

Boy it looks great though...I had one this same year and color some
years back and I miss it looking at these photos!!

In closing this is a very clean and solid Bus
Nice restoration inside and out, very attractive.
Good runner and driver and all at an affordable price when it comes to
these old Busses.
The prices have been skyrocketing...this one is a decent deal for sure.
