1973 VW Squareback For Sale SOLD!
1973 was the final year for the Type 3 models in the US and
The Squareback reigned supreme when it came to popularity in the country.
Today it is a highly prized model for enthusiasts and values seem to be on the rise.
While the 60's era examples are leading the way when it comes to collectability, the 70's
cars are not far behind, and honestly the late model examples seem to be a little harder to find
especially in superb condition like this one!
This Washington state based 73 is really impressive in its originality and overall condition.
This one is a unicorn when you start looking at others on the market...so many of them have been
poorly kept or restored at an amateur level. Finding a true "virgin" like this one is a rare occurrence.
November 72 production date on this one.
Spectacular goodies such as this hand written fuel log from the original owner
that gives a nice peek into just why this one survived so well.
If you have an owner that is as fanatical about maintenance and records as this guy was
you can pretty much bet on the car being cared for!
With 120k original miles and a fully garaged and pampered life, this car still looks fresh.
The car was mostly dealer maintained and serviced.
Fuel receipts and such included...I just dig it.
The car spent much of its time in the Salem area and is now in Washington State
Lets get down under this car and work our way up.
Look at how clean and dry it is underneath!
Very good
Super solid and original chassis
No rust or signs of rust repair
Fantastic
Its no show car obviously but really for a car of this age and mileage to be as clean as it is underneath is impressive.
The interior too is in great shape
Original carpets and upholstery.
More interior shots to come below.
Spare tire well is super clean.
Factory paper paint code tag is present.
Original German Continental bias ply spare tire!
So clean
Under the hood the trunk liner is fantastic
Rear cargo area too is impressively clean.
Another factory sticker still intact.
Tire pressure sticker on the glove box door.
Original Volkswagen Sapphire XV radio.
Note the small light just to the right above the radio...this was to light up the heater controls
at night...an odd little item but needed to pass US requirements at the time.
So nice!
Headliner looks amazing
The clock even works!!
Original paint here, this is not restored!
Window rubbers are holding up well
All glass including the windshield are original German parts with the proper markings.
According to the owner the paint is all original on this car.
While it is not without flaw, it is impressive to see it in such nice shape.
Glass all looks great
Rear seat.
I think the drivers seat back was recovered ...it looks slightly different in tightness and grain.
You can see the slight difference here between the flatter seams on the passenger seat
and the slightly puffier seams on the drivers seat.
Original door panels
Super clean in the fuel filler area
Original 1600 fuel injected engine runs fantastic.
And boy does this car look sharp!
More interior shots
A couple more under the hood showing that amazing nose from inside the spare tire well
Wow!
Brake fluid reservoir is so clean
Trunk liner is amazing
Under the liner is spotless as well
Nice!
Another engine room shot
Even nice under the rubber mat!
Original carpets!
Original jack
Small crack below the speaker grille area on the dash pad.
That original carpet is wildly nice considering its age and the mileage of the car.
Light scratch in the paint on the fender
Small ding on the top of the rear fender
Light dent on the roof.
Some paint speckle damage along the top of the interior of the drivers door.
A better pic of the crack in the dash pad.
In closing this is obviously a pretty special car.
Very well kept and cared for , preserved and maintained to a very high level.
This is collector grade stuff in my book, but would also make a wonderful
driver and weekend play toy. Certainly a car to be proud of. SOLD!
