1956 RHD VW Beetle Sedan For Sale
Here is a very unique car.
Firstly it is an Oval window which in my ever so humble opinion is the most beautiful era
of the VW Beetle. Sure the split windows are nice, but there is just something special about the Oval era
of 53-57. They are great drivers, have such a smooth pretty flow to their exteriors and interiors...it's just a sweet package.
Anyway...off the soap box...
The car being an Oval window isnt what makes it so special...it is where the car was built and the great history behind it.
In 1954 Volkswagen started building cars for the Australia and New Zealand markets in a new factory in Australia.
In the early days the factory basically assembled cars that were produced in Germany and shipped in pieces.
This type of arrangement was referred to as CKD (Completely Knocked Down). CKD cars were then built
on site in more remote locations and often fitted with smaller parts obtained from local vendors.
Quite often glass and electrical items were from local suppliers and in some case have very minor differences from the
German made counterparts. In 1956, just two years into VW Australia, they had ramped up production
to just over 9,000 cars per year. This pales in comparison to German production of course...which makes this
car even higher on the rarity scale.
So...it's an Oval, which is cool.
It is an early CKD car, produced in Germany but assembled in Australia...which makes it rare.
And it is in all original condition with very low original miles since new...which makes it amazing.
The owner of this car has provided a simply huge selection of photos of the car from every possible angle.
Rather than edit them down to just a dozen or two, I am posting them all so you can see just how
completely awesome this car is. It truly is a very rare find indeed.

Original owners manual
Birth certificate from VW shows July 56 production and at the bottom it mentions "CKD".
From this date it went to Australia where it was assembled and then sold.
During the current owners keep of the car he has performed the following tasks...
engine rebuild
transmission rebuild
transaxle rebuild
carb rebuild
generator rebuild
spindles rebuild
fuel pump rebuild
steering box rebuild
new muffler
new swing axle boots
new master cylinder
new rear wheel cylinders
remove undercoating in wheel arches
repaired horn
replace voltage regulator (is a '55 unit)
He has basically gone through the mechanicals from front to back and has carefully cleaned and polished
the underside of the car (as well as the top side) to preserve the originality
of it all the way through. He didnt restore anything cosmetically...it is all original finish inside and out
but he went whole hog on making it mechanically perfect.
