1957 Oval Ragtop Baja Bug For Sale
Now this is something you dont see very often here on Oldbug!
A proper old school Baja Bug built out of a genuine Oval Ragtop!
What may seem like a sin today was a great plan back when this car was built.
Long before the values climbed and the cars became collectors items,
everything was wide open to do what you want when it came to customizing.
And really...what could be any better than a Baja with that big awesome sunroof!
Built as a Baja in San Diego back in the 1980's, the interior is pure flashback
as well with diamond tuck upholstered buckets and door panels.
Car is currently in Virginia.
The Oval rear window with the fat Baja kit below it is just so cool!
That dash and interior...man this is FUN!!
This is a wide eye Baja kit obviously, which were much safer
than the first narrow eye kits. I guess having the headlights close together
made oncoming drivers think it was just a motorcycle and there were some close calls
that made the designers re-think the set up. This one with the wide set headlights and the
awesome KC off road lights will certainly clear a wide path ahead of you when the trail gets dark.
Awesome wide 5 white spoke wheels with the red and blue pinstripes.
Tires are excellent by the way.
The paint is aging a little and stone chips from days of play are evident.
Love those bright fun graphics!
Just too dang cool!
Clean and carpeted under the front hood.
Interior looks like the ultimate playhouse on wheels to me.
Even the domelight works!
This is a turn key, ready to enjoy car that has been owned by a life long VW
enthusiast. He has fully sorted it to make it a reliable and fun fair weather driver.
Side bars definitely help keep the brush off the body and fenders

I dont think this car has ever been truly bashed hard through the trails.

Excellent running 1600cc dual port engine with Tri Mill exhaust.
See through distributor cap and matching pulley trim
Nicely detailed and its got 12 volt electrics as well.
Mechanically the car was rebuilt less than two years ago with minimal use and miles since.
And for you vintage purists (LOL)
we have the Birth Certificate from VW that documents it as an original ragtop car!
Also interesting to see its original delivery location as Mexico... cant get much more Baja than that!
Very solid body
Fun and clean!
I like the painted inner sheet metal with only the headliner covering the center section.
Easy to clean and maintain.
Sunroof opens and closes well
Man this thing is SOLID underneath!
Brakes have all been done, heater is hooked up and functional.
You can see some age and stress cracks in the fiberglass in spots
but all of that adds to the survivor vibe of the car.
It also takes the edge off if you wanted to really go play in the dirt with the car.
When they are too perfect. they scare you way from really using them for what they were designed for.
And what they were designed for was ultimate freedom and fun.
Its amazing how well a stock suspension Baja like this will handle whatever terrain
you put in front of it. They are so light and nimble and are just incredibly fun to drive.
With these bright colors and graphics, its also incredibly fun to look at and will definitely
bring in the onlookers whenever you stop!
Again...its no show car, and it shows its life of use.
Certainly one could repair and repaint, but I think it would lose a lot of its charm if you went that way with it.
Such a blast and a beautiful flashback survivor.
