1969 Karmann Ghia Coupe For Sale

This wonderful all original survivor car has been a one owner car since new.
Bought new in Long Beach California by a local school teacher that lived just 3 miles from the dealership.
It has spent its life in the same garage since new and has only had one owner until his recent passing.
The car is being sold by a family member to settle the estate.

The color is the quite uncommon "Chrome Blue" ( paint code L 51K )
and it is a beautiful color.

The paint on the car is original, as is the interior, number matching engine and more.
The car is completely unrestored and still wears the black California plates it was issued when new.

All the original trim and details are in place including the wheel trim rings and side reflectors.

The chrome is in very good shape all the way around and the fit of all the lids and doors is excellent.

Absolutely solid and rust free underneath and delightfully straight.
There are a few chips and scratches here and there and signs of wear, but as you can see the car
still shows beautifully and is just as sweet as can be.

Careful inspection does show that the front end of the car has received some paint repair
and blending at some point during its history. Looking inside the front nose and such it looks
totally straight and untouched, so the paint repair must have been just that...not one due to big damage.

Hella reverse lamps are still in place (and functional)

The original engine runs like a top, super easy starting
and settles into a smooth idle.
Clutch and transmission are very good, it is a very good runner and driver.
Battery is new as well.

Nice to see such a correct original engine in here with all the right details.
Proper German fuel pump, even the original hose clamps on the fresh air tubes.
All original finishes on all the parts, not manipulated or glossed up for sale...this is just pure stuff.
If one truly desired to go further with the polishing and careful touch up, this could really
come alive and look wonderful.

The original "smog equipment" is present under the carb which is a rare sight to see.

Love all the factory markings on the air cleaner

Numbers matching original engine

The interior is all original and is showing some wear and tear
The back seat and rear deck look great

Original carpets throughout and behind the back seat is very good.

Door jams are clean and rust free, no masking lines or anything...its definitely original paint.

Tire inflation sticker in the door jam, latches are clean

Door panels have a little black tape behind the handles.

Gas flap

Odometer reads 61,000 miles which is thought to be original.

Original radio is present and the woodgrain dash is in really nice shape.

Original owners manual and period map in the glovebox.

Sold new at Circle Motors and the chassis and engine numbers do match up
so it is the original numbers matching engine, which is a major bonus.

The original owners card is here and the car was in the garage at the exact same address
at the time of his passing. A true one owner Southern California car.

The biggest "flaw" that the car has in my eyes is that the original upholstery on the front seats has split and
really needs replacement. Fortunately this is not a difficult or expensive task
and once it is done, the car will really look fantastic inside and out.

The original rubber mat is present on the passenger side, the drivers side has been replaced
with a bit of carpet. The factory carpet remains on the center tunnel and sides
and is in pretty nice shape...personally I would just install new rubber mats and leave
the original everything else.

The headliner is in overall good shape with just one spot by the drivers visor
that has been taped...it appears that the owner of the car loved tape and put it on a lot of spots inside
and in the spots that I have been brave enough to peek behind the tape I am finding the damage to be
tiny in comparison to the "patch".

Dash pad also has a taped crack along the center but the wood grain finish on the dash is excellent

Mega solid body on the car and clean rust and repair free rocker panels

One paint scuff along the drivers side front wheel arch that could be carefully touched up.

A small peppering of chips around the drivers door handle

Super solid

Nice reflection in the paint

The thin whitewall bias ply tires are aged and should probably be replaced for safety
but they just look so perfect on the car.

Really a beautiful car with such a great vibe of originality

Wow.

Under the front hood the originality and preservation continues.
The washer bottle pressure hose still attached to the spare wheel

Fantastic original finish under the hood

Hood latch still shining bright

Original trunk liner and tool roll

The original paint code sticker in excellent shape

Original jack still in the holder

Spare tire well is wonderfully straight

The center of the nose is perfect and untouched.

Now deep in the left corner at the base of the vertical portion below the fuel tank
I did discover one rust spot where the metal has been perforated.
This is really the only spot that I found on the whole car that has any rust damage...which is shocking for a Ghia
These cars are well known to be crusty in many places, but this one is fantastic.
Underside shots are in the works and will be posted here shortly.
The chassis is very solid and sound.

In closing this is a really surprising find.
The color is perhaps the best of 1969, the one owner history and
single garage storage its whole life is something we all dream of coming across.
Very original and untouched car from bumper to bumper that can easily be taken to
the next level with minor details and an interior refresh.
The joy of a car like this is that every time you touch it with a new part or a little detailing
it just gets better and better. They are only original once...and truly all original ones are few and far between.
