1973 VW Karmann Ghia Coupe For Sale

This beautiful Karmann Ghia is located in the state of Minnesota
in the hands of a very loving owner that has completed a pan off restoration
of the car and has kept it well out of the elements and has had some great fun collecting trophies at the local car shows.

The car is finished in the original color of Zambezi Green and to jazz things up the roof was
done in Arctic White. Coker whitewall tires on the stock steel wheels finish off the package,

The car features the uncommon "Auto Stick" transmission which is basically a clutchless stick shift
with three forward speeds and reverse of course.  It works like an automatic transmission at stoplights
but you still need to move the shifter to change between gears.

The car shows well and is quite fun in its color combination.
Originally in 73 the roof would have been body color, but this breaks up the
jellybean shape of the Ghia a bit and gives it a little earlier classic vibe.

Some fun bits of history remain on the car such as a French tax sticker in the windshield
which leads one to believe it may have been delivered in Europe originally before coming to the US.

The body and chassis were blasted down to bare metal for the restoration.
Any body damage or rust was cut away and properly replaced with good steel
before the bodywork and finish was applied. The chassis itself was solid and required no welding
but the front right corner and nose were replaced with undamaged original German parts from another car.

The images the owner sent show the car quite well.
They are a little mixed up in order, so bear with me as we jump around the car a bit.

Interior looks great and I love the tan color choice.
The carpet in the car is said to be original and the rest has been redone.

Chrome and trim is very good but not flawless,
There are some small scratches and dings in the finish if you look super close.

Under the front hood is beautifully finished.
Matching spare, correct style trunk liner, proper instructional decals on the latch panel.

Here is a small chip that has been carefully touched up on the top edge of one fender.

Original glass remains throughout with all the right markings on them.

The ridge on the nose looks fantastic

Stock height and all proper original trim and details are in place.

Door panels look fresh and clean

Nose emblem detail

Factory AM/FM radio still in the dash as well as the original shift pattern decal.
Bamboo parcel tray is a nice accessory as well.

Seats are stock and proper and look quite nice. New covers and padding were installed.

There is a little scratch damage to the side of the seat bottom here and a couple of nicks further forward.

The original carpet is cool as it adds a sense of originality to the car while still remaining in pretty nice shape.

Love that clean trunk!

So pretty

A couple of tiny flaws in the window trim

Very solid and clean chassis and the floors
were all covered with a hush mat sound deadener to keep road noise to a minimum.

As mentioned above, during the restoration the passenger front fender and nose were replace
but as you can see, the work was completed very proffessionaly. You would never know by looking at it.

Another nice interior shot.
Note the two pedals, gas and brake...no clutch to mess with in this one.
For those that are not comfortable with driving a stick shift, this is as close to
an automatic as you can get with a Karmann Ghia.

Very nice finish work

New headliner too

She has pulled in a fair share of awards !

Very clean instruments

French tax sticker on the windshield...where has this lovely Ghia been?

Third brakelight has been added at the top of the rear window for safety.

Stock 1600cc engine runs well and has been serviced and cosmetically restored
but has not been rebuilt. The transmission as well worked well and needed no rebuilding.

Nicely detailed in here!

More awards!

It was even shown at the 10,000 lakes Concours d Elegance!

Always garaged and kept out of the elements.

Glove box

Some aging to the original carpets but nothing offensive.

The "way back"

Love the vintage plates too!

Clean masking lines between colors

New rubber

Inside the front nose look great along the ridge,

Super nice in the spare tire well too.

Chassis is clean and well finished underneath

In closing this is a pretty sweet example of a quite rare Auto Stick Ghia.
The owner has obviously put a lot of love, time and money into the restoration
and the results are quite obvious in these photos.
