1959 VW Double Cab For Sale

SOLD!

Some of you "old timers" like me will recognize this truck in a heartbeat.
It the late 80's when this 59 Double Cab came out in the So Cal scene
it blew everybody away.  IRS rear suspension and Porsche disc brakes on a Bus??
Now it seems almost commonplace but in the 80's...nobody did that!

This truck was built here in So Cal by an extremely detail oriented enthusiast that litterally locked himself in the garage
for long periods of time to focus on this project. It was featured in Hot VWs in 1989 and it was a regular at
all the VW shows in the area where it always won it's class
(and beat me with my Double Cab endlessly...LOL!)
It was sold to a wealthy fellow near the coast as a gift for his wife
(who filled the bed with flowers and parked it in front of her high end gift shop)
It was used for this for a short time, then went into storage.

It was sold to a friend and fellow collector in So Cal and put in his warehouse and taken out now and then.
The condition of the car is still fantastic, it really has aged well and still looks fresh.

A couple of minor chips and scratches from use...but the rest is as nice as I remember from over 20 years ago.

The truck is loaded with the best of the best and the level of detail is high.

Euro headlight lenses, bullet turn signals

Disc brakes

Porsche wheels

This was a ground up restoration on an extremely solid example.
The builder had bought this from the original owners...no rust, no wrecks....super dreamy base car.

Look at how smooth that fenderwell is!

Dual circuit master cylinder.

The floors and chassis of this Bus are so dry...these things are so often rusty that seeing one that is this virginal just stops you in your tracks.
This is awesome,

59 was pretty early in Double Cab production and the side gates were unique in that they
were pretty much single cab gates that were cut down to size. You can tell these early ones by the shape of the
pressings in the panel with the longers indentations on the ends and a small one in the center.
Later model ones all three pressings are the same size.

The small glass taillights are another early item...in 1962 they went to the bigger plastic units.
The builder installed 58 model "pressed bumpers" on the truck to give it  slightly earlier look.

The truck is fully functional and an excellent runner and driver.
It was on the car skates for easy storage not for any mechanical issues.
The truck is a great driver...quite fast too with the rear end change and performance engine.

The original canopy is a fantastic  part of the truck...it is an original canvas by the way...not a reproduction.

Title is clean and clear.

The bed is gorgeous with super smooth sheet metal and finished wood strips.

Very well detailed inside and out with all the right bits and hardware.

Kamax bolts as original

Superb

Seat upholstery in basketweave vinyl in very good condition.

Floors are perfect!

Headliner panels are clean and well fit.

Note the rare "Ambulance fan" in the fresh air vent.

Dash is excellent.

Genuine German mirrors

The pressed bumpers are steel, no fiberglass here and they are in fantastic shape.

There are a couple of initials type logos on the truck in a couple spots that appear to be done in vinyl
so they can be easily removed. AR was for Alan Rypinski, the founder of Armor All products
who is the fellow that bought it for his wife.

Those are genuine safari windows too by the way...not aftermarket.

Chrome is all excellent,

Here are some more underside shots...

The IRS rear suspension is very well done.

Oil cooler with fan.

Oberg oil filter.
Rear disc brakes.

Deep sump, functional heater

Hella lenses

1907cc  performance engine with 42dcnf Weber carbs...runs fantastic!
and it is super clean.

One ding in the body just abover the passenger side rear wheel.

And a touched up chip in the paint on the corner.

The original canvas does have some water staining but it is in fantastic shape otherwise!

Even the plastic on the rear window is nice.

The bed is gorgeous.

It has a later model floor mat in it so the holes dont line up just right,

Shift pattern knob is cool

The ambulance fan is a great accessory

Check out that awesome horn button!

Auxillary gauges mounted carefully under the dash.

Chrome church key.

Floors are superb.

The interior panels are in excellent shape and are made of a masonite type material with the rough side facing out.
This gives it a nice textrured appearance rather than being all shiny.

Yummy!

Locking shifter!

Speedo is beautiful

The tachometer was mounted without creating any holes.

Side marker light is pretty cool too

March 89 is when it was featured in Hot VWs

Great spread on an amazing truck.

Ad it is still just as impressive today as it was then.
Fantastic truck and truly one of the best custom double cabs of all time.
