1943 VW Schwimmwagen For Sale

SOLD!!

Here's a beautiful, fully restored Schwimmwagen.

Found in Germany and shipped to Canada in 2011.

Completely restored by famed WW2 Volkswagen specialist Dave Crompton in Michigan.

Original Hella "3 point" horn.

Car has seen very minimal use.
The owner has not taken it in the water but has been assured by the restorer that it should be fully functional.

The tub is restored to like new condition.

Prop unit in stored position.

Original top muffler with the propeller unit rod stored above.

Tow hooks.

Continental all terrain style tires with that lovely X pattern.

Prop unit in down position.

Original prop and safety cover.

  Position ready for amphibious action.

The Schwimmwagen was the most produced amphibious vehicle in history with just over 14,000 units.

Vehicle was originally German Army Beige
but the owner opted to paint it the second Schwimmwagen color Panzer Grey.

I love those tires and their patterns.

Tire pressures were painted on each fender.

Very fine work done by Mr. Crompton.

Front wheels are rudders when the vehicle was submerged in water.
It is also four wheel drive.

The vehicle has two gas tanks, note the caps.

The owner states that one fuel tank has a slight leak at the moment , so he just runs if off of one tank.

The average lifespan in the field for a Schwimmwagen was only about 6 weeks.
While a fair number of them were produced, very few remain today.

Photos of the restoration are available to serious buyers.
The car and work was well done by the top marque and model expert in the US.

Front axles were rebuilt by Concept 1 in Calgary, Alberta.

Original style Wehrmacht German Army license plates.

Another look at that front end.

Vehicle is located in Canada.

Dr. Porsche put together some ingenious engineering in the Schwimmwagen.

Correct wide wheels with "floatation tires".

Engine room is clean and well detailed.

Vehicle comes with two engines.

Currently running a later 25hp dressed to look like an original KDF motor.
And there's another original series *7 era correct motor rebuilt by Mr. Crompton.
The car also comes with spares including an extra front axle and an extra soft top as well.

Electrics remain 6 volt as original.

Cold start fuel tank, it was originally filled with ether for easy starting in winter operations.

Original style fuel pump.

Original style distributor.

Driveshaft for propeller unit.

Currently the coupler for the prop drive is pulled back so that it is not spinning full time.
A quick adjustment of the clamps allow for it to slide forward and lock in place.

When the propeller is lowered down to the back of the car, it engages with the shaft externally.
The design is so simple...when spinning in the water, the pressure keeps the prop tight against the shaft,
but in the event of the prop hitting something like a rock or land, it simply hinges backwards, folding out of harms way.

Correct dash and knobs.

Original grooved steering wheel.

Wooden slat floor boards.

Equipment for the dual fuel tanks.
The front left tank has a small leak and is not being used.

Pretty simple dash.

Passenger foot well.

The restoration went to great details.

Note cross country drive lever left of gear shift base and wooden foot boards.

Original style seats.

"Don't Cover"

Back seat.

Tub drain plug.

Hella "3 Point" horn and blackout headlight covers.

More great details.

Original MG42 machine gun mounting.

External prop shaft port.

Great sequence shots of the soft top up in place.

Close up of the muffler and military tripod

Are you ready to get wet?

Original weight capabilities.

\

Jack port for round head KDF jack.

The Schwimmwagen has a complex history, stemming from Dr. Porsche's ambitious design,
used by elite units of the German army and prized by Allied units that captured them.

This vehicle was originally shipped to the German Supply Depot in Kassel on Oct. 31st 1943.

So. Freakin. Cool.
