1976 European 1200 Deluxe Beetle For Sale

This impressive survivor car is a very rare and special find.
A European delivery 1200 model Deluxe Beetle from 1976 that has been in original family
ownership since new and shows just 17,160 original kilometers on the odometer.
(That is just 10,663 miles!)

Original paint, interior, engine, etc, totally un-restored and obviously very well kept.

The car being a base 1200 model is a very interesting thing especially for the US
collector...that 1200 number is not just a number, it is indeed the displacement...1200cc
which is 40hp, something we never got past 1965 with the US spec delivery cars.
It also retains the swing axle rear end, not the IRS that the US spec cars got from
1969 and later. Ball joint front end, simple carburetor , no fuel injection, etc.

Exterior wise its differences are minor from the cars normally sold in the US.

Being the deluxe model it has all the body and window trim
as well as a full headliner rather than the "standard" model cars that were much plainer.

European bulb type headlamps and turn signal lights integrated into the bumper
rather than perched up on top of the front fenders.

17160 kilometers is stated to be the original to the car
and with its history fully known by the seller, I don't doubt it.

The original order paperwork from Germany remains with the car.
This was a special order car with specific options by the current owner's aunt in Germany
where the car spent most of its life. The current owner is a life long
VW nut located in California and was thrilled to be the next caretaker
as he remembered it as a child when visiting his family in Germany.

This historic paperwork is really uncommon to find and its wonderful
it remains with this car 50 years after it was first sold.

The options ordered when new all remain on the car today.
Some very unique things such as no emblems on the body
and a "safety package" that included the three point harness seat belts
in four seating position and high back seats (that were an option for the 1200)
Blaupunkt radio was also special ordered for the car.

Original German owners manual and notebook with service history is in the glove box.
Even a cool German ice scraper and other little bits remain with the car.

Here are a couple photos of the car when it was still in Germany.

A beautiful Beetle for sure.

And here is even a pic of the current owner as a boy with the car taken back in the late 1970's!

Now here in California with that original paint still shining like new.

Front bumper has a very slight warp to it along the top edge

Body and paint are impressively clean

Glass is excellent

Chrome is clean.
Another very unique detail on this car is that it was ordered without exterior emblems.
Normally there would be a Volkswagen script or at least a 1200 model emblem on the engine lid
as well as the always present round VW logo on the hood...but not on this car!
It was ordered without them!
