1965 VW Karmann Ghia Convertible For Sale

Oh my...shes a beauty!!

The Karmann Ghia of late has been one of the most sought after VW models
and it is widely thought across the scene that they are the next models to really skyrocket in value.

While my crystal ball is not that clear in such matters, I can easily see
why the rumblings of a rise in the market exist for the Ghia.
They are just so beautiful in design, and with a construction process
at the factory being handled the way the Porsches were in the day...done by hand.
it just makes sense that the world is waking up to the Ghia as something quite special
and a far more rare and exquisite model than its brother the Beetle.

The convertibles especially will lead the way and this 1965 model represents
a very popular era of the Ghia. The final year for the domed hubcaps as one detail of note,
but there are many others.

This particular car is in the hands of a good friend of ours here at Oldbug,
a gentleman that has restored some other exemplary vintage VWs that have been sold through the site.
His attention to detail is always applauded and the new owners of the cars he has had his hands upon
are always thrilled with his efforts.  The man does good work and will not cut a corner when it comes
to working through a restoration.

While he has said to me on this car that it is not a "concours level" restoration
Ive got to say it is far better than any old normal "driver".

The car started out as a very solid original California car prior to its restoration
and the builder held true to the original paint color applied at the factory when it came to the repaint.

The car was stripped down to the shell and professionally restored inside and out.

The interior and exterior appear as new, only minimal miles have been driven since completion.

The list of parts replaced is extensive and wherever possible original German parts were used
over any aftermarket replacements.

A basic list of items replaced and rebuilt is as follows.

Completely rebuilt 40 horse engine
New brakes complete, all German parts
New Shocks, steering damper ans the fuel tank cleaned and resealed.
New transmission boots and oil replaced
New heater cables, hard start relay and 6 volt battery.
New ignition switch, turn signal switch and horns
New wiper blades and arms and all new rubber body seals.
New door hinges, seat belts and sun visors.
Completely rebuilt top, all new interior.
New trunk liner, all new bulbs and a new German antenna.
New insulation panels in the engine compartment.
New tires all the way around.

The list goes on and on!!

Carpet is all new

Seats were fully rebuilt and reupholstered.

All stock when it comes to brakes and suspension.
No silly lowering or hot rod upgrades, this car was kept pure.

The color is called Manila Yellow and is a Ghia only color for the year.

Bumpers are original German parts that have been re-chromed.

Wheels have been restored and painted a solid silver and wrapped with new radial tires.

The dash is clean and simple and unmodified.
The 65 model was the last of the early style dash and in 66 things changed and further trim was added.
The simplicity and beauty of that early dash with the ashtray carried over from the 53-57 Beetle
has always been my favorite.

Door panels are new. door seals as well.

Everything fresh and clean.

While the rear seat is certainly not designed for the large of stature,
it is a perfect place for the kids or dog to ride with you, top down on a beautiful summer day.

Oh...the engine room...check out how clean and beautiful this is!
Fully rebuilt and running superb.

Under the front hood...super clean
Original tool roll and jack are present as well as the California license plate from
its previous life in the land of sunshine.

New trunk liner and hood seal.

The most fragile spot for the Karmann Ghia is that precious nose.
When they get bumped, its almost impossible to get things right.

When you look at a Ghia youve just got to pop the hood and look at the crease down the center.
When you see one this straight and clean, you know you have found a very good car.
It seems like probably 90 % if the Ghias that have cone through Oldbug in the past
show some sign of bodywork done in the center of the nose...it seriously is that rare to find one like this

Very solid and clean underneath.

No rust or nasty stuff here,,,mega solid car!

Top down and ready for fun!

I know...lots of duplicates and similar angles here in the pics,
but they all look so nice I just figured I would post them all.

The original radio in the dash is not working at this time, but it look fantastic.

Instruments are all clean and proper.
The ignition switch uses a VW logo key...not some cheesy aftermarket replacement

Have you seen enough ??
This is a very nice car indeed.
