1978 VW Beetle Champagne Edition II Convertible For Sale

This Arizona based Beetle Convertible is a pretty rare find. It is a Champagne Edition II model in the very
pretty and uncommon "Peach Red Metallic (code LE3Y), one of only two
colors available for the second edition of the Champagne cars.

There were approximately 1100 examples built in the two color
combinations, both offered only with the Light Sand top and Ermine
upholstery.

Its a stunning color combination and is definitely uncommon.
I really like it personally...very classy!

This car has been in Arizona since new and has approx 71k original miles since new according to the owner.

The car was repainted on the exterior in 2002 and the paint looks very nice.

Some small details are showing their age such as the original running board rubber which has some damage.
Easy and inexpensive to replace fortunately and these small details will go a long way in improving the car.

Special edition indeed!

Under the front hood is original finish

Extremely solid in the spare tire well

Original paint code sticker is still here.

Straight and solid

Shock towers look rock solid and clean

Windshield header.

Interior shows a little ageing in spots but is still quite presentable.

The padded steering wheel and "burled elm" woodgrain finish on the dash were special touches for the model.

Glove box

Original Blaupunkt AM/FM radio

Dash pad is cracked and sun damaged, but there is an excellent dash cap available on the market that would trim this off
and make it look much better with little effort or expense.

Some expected wear to the handbrake handle and controls.

Original carpets and rubber tunnel mat.

The square rubber mats are modern additions obviously.
I think a set of custom fit coco mats would look amazing in this car..but that's just me.

Some age related marks and wear on the interior here and there.
Its not perfect, but its not bad either.

Headliner is in nice shape

What a beautiful looking car.
That color just glows in the sun!

Original factory fuel injected 1600cc engine runs well.
Only change I can see here from original is non-vacuum advance distributor and I would assume electronic
ignition within. The rest looks pretty factory to me.

Underside is super solid

New disc brakes were installed recently up front.

The factory Lemmerz sport wheels and trim rings are here with the car.
Tires look to be in very good condition.

The top is the original one to the car and it does have a couple flaws that you can catch in this picture.
It still fits and functions fine and the car has not been driven in poor weather so it has not been high on the "to-do" list
for the current owner, but depending on where it goes and its intended use, perhaps this should be fixed at some point.

Definitely an uncommon model and color combination
and being a dry desert example since new is an excellent thing as it remains extremely solid and sound.

Fun summer play toy and a good one to stash away in your collection as these special edition models
are becoming more and more desirable as time goes on. A very good car at a very good price.
