1973 VW Thing For Sale
This 1973 VW Thing comes to us from Northern California
where its owner has had it for about 10 years. Its not been driven much
over the past few years and it has been decided that it needs a new home
that will love and enjoy it and get it out of the garage and on the road where it deserves to be.
Its a very complete and un-altered car with a nice vibe of originality
and some mild patina.
Factory gas heater in this one, which is a neat accessory.
Would probably be wise to inspect and test it before running it
but it appears to be complete.
Top looks to be in good condition and it comes with the side curtains as well
Windshield frame and hinges have been painted black.
Some fade and age cracking to the taillight lenses.
Carpet on the floors as well as the cool wood "duck boards"
Polished Empi 5 spoke wheels give it a little custom touch
but that really appears to be the only modification to the car.
New brakes all around, new shocks, new fuel tank, new CV joints and axles
Kennedy clutch, new carburetor, new exhaust, new tires, new top and side curtains
and new 1/4 pan replacement all done during current ownership.

Nice clean bumpers on this car.
1600cc dual port engine runs well.
Some paint fade to the front hood.
Dash appears all stock.
Good exhaust and I see the engine has the proper Thing guard to protect the case from impact.
Odometer reads 5000 miles and change...obviously has turned over.
Fold down rear seats
A couple small flaws on the seat upholstery.
Leather wrap on the steering wheel
One poke hole tear in the rear seat back
Notable paint crack along the body seam
Looks like a face to perhaps a clear coat...possible to sand off and re-coat
rather than repaint the whole thing? Or just buff it the best you can and deal with it.
Front fenders have similar fade issues.
Engine case is a little grimy, but it looks dry under the sump plate and the chassis from
this view looks very solid.
Overall this looks like a very solid and honest California car.
Ready for a new home and a new owner that will give it some love and enjoy it.
