1949 VW Beetle Sedan For Sale

When it comes to collecting classic cars it is common that desirability seems strongest for the earliest examples
of a certain model. The Beetle of course is no different. The Split Window models have always been highly prized
but there is a definite threshold that gets crossed when cars are production dated in the 1940's rather than the 1950's

This beautiful grey Beetle is a 1949 model, chassis number 1-0104722 that rolled off the assembly line
in May of 1949.  It retains its original body and chassis and even the engine number is in the correct date range.

The car has been fully restored from top to bottom, every nut and bolt turned.
It is in beautiful condition, ready for show or to be a nice addition to any collection.

The Beetle in its purest and most simple form.

Underneath this car is as clean as above.
Its nice to see a car done to this level.

Looks to be the correct early split case trans, wheels are the proper riveted 16" steel.

Cable brakes as original

Looks like the rear fenders have the proper dimples for the split taillights.

Short shock front end.

Lever shock rear end, again, nice to see the proper hardware and parts going on under here.

Body tag detail

Body number also comes up correct for May of 49

Fender wells and under hood areas have been finished with a durable impact resistant textured material.
Color matched of course so it looks proper and fresh, but original finish would have been smooth.

Engine number also lines up perfect for a May of 49 car.
Its an extremely uncommon thing to find and example of this age with all numbers matching.
While we do not have the birth certificate from VW to verify, but by all appearances it looks spot on.

Engine has been fully rebuilt and restored and looks very proper to me.
Details such as the star coil, T air cleaner and D regulator are present.
Flat top distributor looks correct as well.  seamed fan shroud, big nut generator...the list goes on.

1949 was the first year for the grooved bumpers with short guards.
These are finished in chrome and are in excellent shape.

Headlight rings also in chrome

You can just see the proper pressing on the deck lid under the license plate.
This was the final year for this design element that was present from the prototypes through the KDF era.

Nice fit and finish to the car, well done with quality materials and workmanship.

Being and early 49 production date car, it retains the small fuel tank.

Wheels are the proper riveted 16" steel with large logo hubcaps finished in chrome.

Matching 15" spare wheel

Interior is done very simply as original.
No frills or luxury to the "Peoples Car" in the 1940's

Three spoke steering wheel, a single instrument pod and basic controls is all you get.

German cloth interior

Restored speedometer, looks to be the proper early key switch.

Simple.

A couple more engine shots...very clean.

I spy the hand crank style nut on the lower pulley.
Yes...it has the electric starter, but what fun to actually crank it up like grand dad's old Model T!

This is a very attractive and well restored early car.
Located on the East Coast in the hands of a well respected dealer,
this will be a wonderful addition to any collection.

These studio shots make it look like a toy!

Such a pretty little Beetle...the start of it all.
Little did anyone know at the time what a massive affect the humble little Beetle would have on the world.
The Beetle is an Icon without a doubt...and this is the archetype.
