1966 Beetle Sedan For Sale

1966 was a very popular year in the life of VW in America.
Production was high, sales were strong and progressive refinements to the Beetle were starting
to evolve to keep up with modern times and growing safety regulations.

The engine upgrade in 1966 on the US models to the 1300cc engine (versus the 1200cc prior)
made the cars able to keep up with rising highway speeds and the new ball joint front end suspension
improved handling and ride quality as well over the link pin units that were used from the beginning up to 1965.

66 was the second year for the larger glass in the body and the final year for the rounded lower tip of the engine lid.

The list of changes and minor differences go on and on, and when the 67 model year rolled around
things changed even more followed by the 1968 cars that again changed, and even more dramatically.

The 66 remains the final year for the big glass headlights and it has always been a favorite of mine
throughout my history in dealing with VWs.
This one in particular is especially attractive. Not just for the year and color, but also
for the quality of the restoration as well as the very tasteful upgrades that turn it into
a very neat and unique package.

While the car retains that charming classic Beetle look on the outside,
under the engine lid lurks a wonderful surprise.
This Rich Eichler built 2.4 liter engine with an aluminum case is a spectacular upgrade.

Ported and polished cylinder heads and twin Weber 40 carbs.

Crank case breather and billet oil cap

Powder coated engine tins and all new hardware,
12 volt electrics with alternator, electric fuel pump, Bosch 009 distributor
The list goes on and on.

Very clean and well detailed restoration, the car shows very well
and runs and drives fantastic.

The transmission was fully rebuilt and matched in good spec with the increase in engine horsepower.
Four wheel disc brakes were installed for safety.

Extremely solid chassis and body

This car prior to restoration was an extremely solid original low mileage car
with a known history to day one as well as just 39k miles since it was first sold
at Vallejo VW to its original lady owner whom the current owner acquired it.

With the dis brake conversion the bolt pattern was changed to the later 4 lug set up
upon which are bolted 6" wide custom steel VW wheels with stock hubcaps.

This was a body off restoration by the way, all new floor to body seals and everything on up from there.

Front disc brakes, rebuilt front end and new shocks
The car handles and rides very nice and a far cry from the original specs.

Always maintained by a well heeled German car mechanic.

Black California plates with the original selling dealer plate frame.

Bumpers are new , rubber and body seals all look fantastic.

Such a sweet looking car!

Look at the reflection of the clouds on the hood in this shot.
This is a quality build through and through.

Pop out rear quarter windows

Super straight and smooth...this baby is NICE!

The car comes with a nice fitted car cover as well.

Very clean under the front hood.
Matching spare wheel and tire.

Super clean details

Interior is beautifully done!!

Dash has been ungraded with a nice gauge package to monitor the health and function of that big 2.4
banger out back. The rest retains a wonderfully clean and stock appearance.

Nicely fitted carpet kit and vintage style coco mats.

Close up of the instruments

Really clean and well done.
The original AM radio is included in the sale (and was working when removed).
In the dash now is a modern unit that uses the factory un-cut radio hole and allows access to modern devices.

Door panels appear to be extremely well preserved originals.

Headliner is super tight and clean, even the dome light works!

Its all truly like new in here.

The shifter has been ungraded to a short throw unit which makes for more precise shifts.

I also should note that the functioning original AM radio and original 37,000 mile motor will be included in the sale.

In closing this is one seriously nice car.
I love the "sleeper" approach with the all stock appearance and the massive upgrades
in performance and handling. It bridges the gap between an all stock restoration and a strong performing
hot rod so perfectly...its the best of both worlds.
