The 1970s were a wild time in history and the VW scene.
The Dune Buggy craze was rolling full steam and many manufacturers jumped
on board
to do their own interpretation of Bruce Meyer's mighty Manx.
And VW performance parts giant Empi made perhaps the most stylish buggy of
the era...the "Imp".
This Empi Imp is a 1970 body that is absolutel loaded with every possible
option and is restored to
full show condition inside and out. I dare say it must be one of the nicest
in existance today!
ALL the details are here...like it just stepped off the pages of the Empi
catalog!
The chrome taillights and plate light, the rear engine cover
the Empi "sprint star" wheels wrapped with raised white letter tires...the
image is perfect.
This example is currently located in England, but delivery to anywhere in
the world ca be arranged
without issue. This Buggy is ready for any collection...it is top quality.
Speaking of "top" quality...the top is superb and the side curtains too...superb.
The heavy metalflake paint, the colors, the accessories...it is impressive.
Very nice period style pinstripe work.
The original Empi "imp" badges.
It is great.
Peeking in through the open sides you can see the correct Empi logo seating...
Look at that body shape...just fantastic!
The seats are straight from the catalog as well with the fiberglass buckets
and Empi seat pads.
The original body tag
Check out the wood knobs, the shifter and hand brake cover
and that amazing array of Empi instruments.
Even an Empi radio!!!
Seriously this one is the best I have seen...it has it all.
This is as collection worthy as any vintage VW out there.
The car represents a great era and one that was so important in the VW scene
and automotive world as well.
The "dune buggy" sure made it's impact all over the world.
Empi tach on the left side of the steering wheel.
And the steering wheel...of course, an original Empi wood rim GTV wheel.
Fantastic
Finding one with the side pods and the rear fender/engine covers is extremely
difficult!
The engine is a fully rebuilt and detailed unit with period proper
dual carbs and details.
Note the skid plate under the engine as well...straight from the catalog.
Speaking of catalogs and such...Empi was the bomb back in the day when it
came to marketing
The Imp was sent to auto shows around the world,
Fantastic ads and images were made.
Do a little searching online and you will find a ton of information.
One of my favorite pages is right here..

So cool!!
From the "Got EMPI Power" decal on the windshield to the chrome nerf bars...it
is all right and all super clean.
Peek a boo!
The nerf bars are easily removable by the way...here they are shown off the
car and stored in the cabin.
In closing this is really a special car.
The ultimate show buggy and a fantastic fun play toy.
Perfect addition to any auto collection as well.
I think it would be very difficult to find a nicer example than this.
