1971 VW Super Beetle For Sale

We get a lot of the higher end VWs on the website for sale and I often hear feedback from
people that the prices are rising on these cars to a point where it is "ruining the hobby".
The people that make these complaints are usually bitter because they cant afford
what it takes to buy a Split or an Oval.  There are things in this world that we ALL wish we could
afford, be it a mansion on the hill or a new fancy yacht.  The joy of life is achieved when we are happy with
what we CAN afford and I still feel strongly that the vintage VW scene has a seat for every budget.

This is a prime example of that.

This 1971 Super Beetle has come to us through a neighbor in our rural community.
Its a car that he has owned and played with for a number of years, but as life has
taken him, there are bigger and better projects that have been taking his attention and time.
Family and home projects have put the Beetle on the back burner and it was decided it is time to
send it off to someone that will enjoy it.

The car has been parked for the past few years and occasionally started to keep the fluids flowing.

It has been sitting outside in the weather a little and the hot desert sun is starting to leave its mark.

The clear coat on the roof is bubbling in spots.

This really seems to be primarily on the roof itself, the rest of the car seems pretty good
but there are some chips and scratches and assorted flaws.

As a "10 footer" though she really still looks great.
Great color combo and nice mild lowered stance.

We have cleaned the car up a bit and have gotten it fired up and running.
A little clog in the carburetor and a chewed up starter wire were the main culprits.

Its a pretty fun looking car.
Its not a high end paint job or a super valuable model
but its got a cool look and is most definitely a neat vintage ride.

Out back is a 1600cc dual port engine with a bunch of chrome bits and details.
Polished stainless firewall, aluminum crank pulley.
New Empi carburetor, 009 distributor, etc.
The engine runs well but does have the dreaded "flat spot" that comes with
this combination of equipment. Quickly you get the rhythm of it and learn how to
keep the revs where they need to be to accelerate smoothly and the car runs great and is fun to drive.
Brakes, steering and transmission all seem to be working as they should.

New carpet kit has been installed.
A new headliner kit comes with the car but is still in the box.

Tinted windows, chrome vents

Under the front hood is reasonably clean and solid.

Nice Continental tires up front.

Window scrapers are worn and could use replacement

Early steering wheel is installed and white horn button is a cool detail.
(horn not working)

Clear turn signal lenses look great against the paint color.
There are some chips here and there that could be touched up like these around the signal base.

The headliner is missing at the back of the car as well as the carpet in the luggage  area.
A brand new headliner comes with the car, but will need installation.

Another engine shot.

Car is solid underneath.
Fuel line is run under the pan

Behind the back seat in the luggage area is the only sign of rust perforation that I saw.
And it is just a couple spots...could be patched up and sealed fairly easy.

The dash pad is brand new.

Good solid floor pans

Door panels have a little warp to them and the pocket on the drivers side is a bit saggy

Rear seat has a small tear in it.

Dogs do not care about such things

Front seats are done in a comfortable cloth and vinyl combination.

Close up of the rip in the back seat

There is a hole for a passenger side mirror (and there is a new mirror that comes with the car)

This is a great entry level car into the aircooled VW world.
Its reasonably clean and complete, is a good runner and driver and it has had a fair bit of money spent on it
in recent years with some new parts and service.  The shocks and struts were replaced a few years back
and the engine sounds nice and healthy.  Its a fun car.

The big and little tire combo and slightly lowered front end give it a little attitude and
the two tone paint scheme gives it some style.

When people complain about the cost of buying a cool old VW to drive and enjoy
I always like to remind folks that you don't need the most expensive seat in the house to enjoy the concert.

Cute, cool and classy....and this one wont break the bank.
