One of the most popular of the late convertibles is the "triple white".
We get these listed from time to time and they always seem to sell quickly.
This example is a really neat one for many reasons... it is all original, has 55,000 original documented miles
and it has always been here in Southern California, so it is a very very solid example.

The blue California plates start the story.
The current owner of this car bought it in 1979 with just 50 miles on the odometer
and has owned it ever since. It received most of its miles in the early days as you would expect ,
in 1990 there are records that show it having 49,000 miles...so in the past 20 years it has had less than 6,000 miles put on it.

The paint is all original as is the top and interior.
The only exception to this is an area on the front that was resprayed after a small incident.

The wheels and tires look great and have the proper caps and lug covers.

While not a mint condition show car, it still look very nice out on the road
and considering it has never been restored...it is quite the survivor!

Its hard to tell exactly what has been repainted up in the front but the owner told me it was
the hood and at least one front fender.

Signals look good, the rubber seems to be holding up fairly well
The car has been garaged during the vast majority of it's life.

Glass is good.

Still has the unleaded decal on the gas door.

Karmann body badge.

Now the finish on these wheels looks a little "too good" to me...I think they may have been repainted.
The original factory silver paint was never that hearty...but this looks fantastic.

Chrome is good, the rubber impact strips and end caps are present.

There are a few chips and scratches such as this that could be touched up if desired.

The top, while it has darkened a bit over time...still fits and functions quite well
and the chrome on the  side window frames is very good.

You can see how the top has "greyed" slightly...but for being the original one...truly impressive.

Another paint scratch.

The body of the car is very straight and overall the paint finish is nice and shiny.

Panel fit is good, overall a pleasing car to the eye.
I did notice that the bubber bumper trim on the back was hanging a little loose in the center, but I imagine that is a simple enough fix.

Here is a liitle ding/paint flaw under the rear bumper on the passenger side.

The engine is the original and it has been properly serviced during its life.
It is a very good runner and driver and recently passed the strict California emissions tests.

Underside of the lid has the instructional stickers still in place.

The engine itself has all the stock equipment in place!

Even the coil is the original one to the car as evident by the faded blue sticker on the body.

There is another paint scratch on the engine lid just above the license plate.

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being a showroom new car, I would give this one
about a 7.5 but with big bonus points for originality and history.

Super super solid car underneath! Never any rust underneath and no repairs.

Under the engine is nice and dry.

Floors and support rails look dreamily solid.
These are both common spots for rust on a convertible...but this example is as good as they get!

Smooth and straight down the body...not a whole lot of door dings or anything.

Interior is all original and in very nice shape.
The dash pad which is so commonly cracked from the sun is superb on this car.
Its garage kept life has helped this happen.

The top folds down easily and smoothly...no issues there.

The only non original item inside is the radio which was added at some point long ago.

In the glove box is a fat stack of service receipts from the life of the car!

The radio appears to me to be late 80's in design...I didnt ask what happened to the original
but I dont believe this one was in it when new.

The odometer reads 55,918 miles at the time of the photos and this is documented to be the original mileage on the car.

The burl wood finish is very clean on the dash and the clock is in very good shape.

The original rubber floor mat and carpet remain in place.
A small section of the rubber mat is missing near the pedals but nothing a nice set of coco mats wont cover.

Door panels are in great shape!!

The seats are in impressive shape.

Here in this photo you can see the missing rubber section.
Look how nice the original felt type carpet is on the side panels!

Rear seat looks great.

Original padded steering wheel.

Dash pad is shockingly nice and free of cracks.

Good car eh?

The classic "palm tree shot" to show that we are in sunny California
where the skin is tan and the cars arent rusty...not a bad place to be!

Top frame and rubber in good condition.

Original spec sticker in the window still.

Warning tag on the rear panel is also here.

Top of the back seat has some very small little pick-holes along the top.
Apparantly the owner's cat spent a time crawling up here for a rest and picked at the seat a bit while there.

Visors look good.

Some service stickers in the door jam.
Door rubber shows some deterioration.

A few paint chips from catching the seat belt in the door now and then...a simple touch up.

Production sticker is in place...rolled off the assembly line  in April of 1979.

Catalyst decal too still in place.

Picture you and your family here!

The dash pad...I keep coming back to that perfect dash pad...this is so incredibly uncommon here in California
to have one that is not cracked up from the sun.

Under the front hood it  shows some use but is in decent shape and will clean up even nicer with a little effort.

Original paint code sticker is still here... Alpine White.

No signs of rust or damage to the strut towers and the finish in here I bet will polish right up.

Matching sport wheel spare.

No rust or damage in the spare tire well.

Washer tank

Underhood looks mooth and clean

Out by the handle you can see a little paint chipping that points to this panel being repainted at one point as the owner told me.

Door hinge areas are clean and damage free...original grease caps still in place.

Runningboards in good condition.

Original gravel guards on the leading edge of the rear fenders.

Here is a note in one of the owners manuals showing the mileage in 1990...this along with the fat stack of service records
backs up the original mileage statement perfectly.

Rear view mirror is clean and in good shape.

Here is a clearer shot of the odometer.
The owner drove quite a few miles to meet me for the inspection
so it will have a little more than this...but lets just call it 56,000 miles since new and we are good.

Nice clean triple white convertible.

Good solid California car with a fully documented history.
Reasonably low miles, a garaged life...in the end..she's a beauty!
