1968 VW Type 3 Fastback For Sale
SOLD!

This So Cal based 68 Fastback is a really unique and cool build.

Starting with a super solid original paint California car, the owner went all out to build
a very slick and solid performing car with some mild custom touches and the best parts he could find.

The body is super straight and smooth on this car
and much of the paintwork remains the original finish.

There are some fade spots and slight body waves here and there if you look
close, but with finish that has been on the car for 50 years, it is understandable.

The car shows very well as you can see, but it is not without cosmetic flaws,
to me that is a part of its appeal, its still got some soul.

It also has some very unique custom touches that make you turn your head just a bit
and say what?

The engine vents in the rear deck lid are something I have never seen before.
With the performance engine under the lid the owner wanted to give the carbs a little breathing room.
Rather than fans or decklid stand offs or anything like that, he had louvers from a Beetle engine lid
professionally grafted in so they look like a factory detail.

Obviously with the modifications to the engine lid, that panel was repainted
but the color match is very good.

I didnt go after the car with a paint gauge or anything so I cant comment on
the originality of every single panel's paint...but the car has a very cohesive
look to it from all angles.

Flat Euro taillights look awesome on a Fastback
Chrome is fresh on the bumpers.

Pop out quarter windows

Rear deck "luggage rail" and a smoothly integrated Porsche 356 engine lid grille
in the rear deck for even a bit more air flow.

The roof paint does have some fade spots and slight waves.
Perhaps further polishing will help if it bothers you, but personally I kinda dig it.

Window scrapers look nice, a peek inside shows more nice stuff,
Cool car!

Black California plates with dealer plate frames

Interior is all fresh and beautifully done.
Early style armrests installed on the door look super cool

Empi GT wood wheel and Gene Berg shifter.

Trip speedometer and all instruments rebuilt by North Hollywood speedometer
Needles are bright and happy and all match.

Tachometer is a great accessory as well

ISP instruments under the dash.

Berg shifter is excellent quality.

Very clean and tight

I love the grey mesh vinyl two tone on the seats, a perfect vintage vibe.

Low back front seats are superb, new seat belts as well.

Very nice!

Out back under the lid at first glance it looks pretty stock

The velocity stacks coming through the lids are the only clue
that there is something more than a 1600cc under the lid.

Under the lid is a FAT Performance built 2276cc engine that pumps
out about 140 hp.

42DCNF Weber carburetors with Ram Flo filters

External oil filter

Amazing one off custom stainless exhaust with Carrera 6 style tip designed by the builder.

A1 Performance did the exhaust and it is beautiful!

Deep oil sump

Back side of the louvers in the deck lid...very cleanly done!

Factory original floor pans are super solid.

Polished "Gas Burner" Mahle wheels with VW center caps.
High quality Vredestein Sprint Classic tires.

Very solid, dry and original car.

Michelin XZX 145-15 front tires.

More slight fade visible along the upward facing panels.

Under the front hood is original and unrestored.

Very straight in the spare tire well, no rust, no notable damage
original jack is in the holder.

One oddity on this car is that the body tag lists it as a model 36,
which should be Squareback versus model 31 for Fastback.
The chassis number and vin number on the tag here do match the title.
Was something swapped or was this a factory mistake?
Very odd, but worth noting.

This image shows the slight waves along the roof.

Laser cut VW man bumper tag is cool.

Clean title and current registration

"S" model license light chrome trim.

Cool 1968 rally badge on the grille on the rear deck.
