1970 VW Beetle Sedan For Sale

This original survivor comes to us from Sonoma California where it remains
in the original owners hands after so many years.
Purchased new in late 1969 in the Los Angeles area and has spent its whole life in California,

The car shows well but does show its age as most 56 year olds are starting to do.
I love though that it remains in original condition as there is something so cool about that.
As they say...they are only original once!

Blue California plates, the correct rear reflectors, the bumper guards, etc...all the correct original parts are here.

The paint has its fade through spots and assorted dings and scratches

The overall appearance is good though, it presents itself like the quintessential "old lady car"
which in reality...it is.  This is the one you see pass by with a flash of grey hair behind the wheel
and you follow her to the grocery store and leave your number on the windshield hoping she calls someday.

Well today is the day she is ready to finally let it go.

1970 is a great year for the Beetle.
These make excellent drivers and weekend fun cars.
Not so rare or perfect that you would freak out over it, but nice enough to get a few thumbs up on the road.

Stock wheels with hubcaps and wheel trim rings.

Accessory gravel guards on the rear fenders.

All portals open, the car has that perfect "Volkswagen smell".

Small dent in the passenger side front fender near the bumper end.

Like a sweet yellow flower sitting in the garden

I spy accessory door sill trims as well as the corner guards.
Probably all goodies added at the dealership when she was sparkly new.

Stock engine has all the right tins and trimmings.
Engine lid has the rain tray and all is surprisingly clean under here.

In this shot you can see some of the ripples on the front hood. Looks minor, not a collision
that left any serious marks as the fit of the hood and the evenness of the hood gap remains nice.

No modifications to body or trim.
The windows all have the proper aluminum trim intact and it retains the factory mirror and antenna

UC Santa Cruz plate frame (Go Slugs!) is a neat bit of history for the car and the scene it has lived.

I spy another period accessory through the rear window with the speaker deck behind the seat.

A better shot of the damage to the hood.
Its a bit of a scar I must admit, but I look at it as adding character.
It would be a shame to repaint the hood and have it not match the rest of the body
so if it were mine I would probably leave it, or see if a good paintless dent removal guy could improve upon it.

Some small spots of rust peeking out below the headlight ring.
This does not seem to be deep, so perhaps it could be cleaned, treated and touched up carefully.

Nice to see the original bumper guards with the rubber intact.

Its hard to tell exactly what is going on here in this shot.
It looks like some dark specks across the top if the fender and I do see a paint shade difference
between the engine lid and the body in the bright sun.
Maybe a couple of panels have been resprayed at some point?

Over all the car is really straight though. Its a good one for sure.

Original cars like this are such a treat to own and work on.
Things remain as the factory built them and that means it was all assembled with care.
Restored cars often hide some sins below the shiny surface and nobody puts them together like the factory does.

Inside it looks like we have some nice recent carpet and a cool center console.

The awesome 70's accessory wood knobs are super cool and that dash pad looks to be in great shape
And hey...look at the pedals...this one has the rare Auto Stick transmission!

The auto stick trans cars were long thought to be downside to collectors
but now with the changing tides in cars and the shrinking availability of modern stick shift cars,
the auto stick models have become highly prized by modern drivers that did not grow up with a clutch!

They are fun drivers too, I have had a couple and really enjoyed them.

Rear seat material shows a couple splits
Factory seat belts are in place back here.

Original headliner too has a couple of issues

This rip at the back is notable as is the area directly under the rear window.

Another notable rip in the headliner seen here on the right.

Another angle

Original decals in the door jam

Here you can see the door sill and corner trims in place.
These were genuine VW accessories offered in the tine this car was new.

On the passenger side as well

Clean door jams and latch areas!

Under the front hood as well is quite clean

Looks like the original windshield washer bottle is present behind the spare
and I spy the proper jack in its holder on the left.

Original owners manual remains with the car.

Including instructions on driving the Auto Stick transmission

Large array of service records accompany the car.
Its always been well maintained.

The car comes with a few new parts...body seals, window rubbers and such.
New taillight lenses and turn signal lenses as well.

Some gaskets and hoses and other assorted bitsl.
A service kit for the auto stick servo unit as well.

And of course it comes with the perfect service manual, and its one of the awesome
early spiral bound releases which is so much easier to use than the regular bound issues.

Back to the engine room this is another view of the power plant.
She is reportedly a very good runner and driver.
The most recent rebuild was around 2010 and the owner estimates its been about 50k miles since
while the odometer had rolled over a couple times in the past 56 years.

Looking quite clean and dry under the engine and transmission!

KYB GR2 shocks, the axle boots look good.

Original un-welded floor pans ate very straight and solid.

Front end as well appears all original and pretty untouched.

Some peeling of factory undercoat  in spots but it all looks pretty solid in these pics.
Fun to see the original paint color peeking out in the spots where the undercoating has chipped away.

No greasy build up or muck under the engine lid.
Looks to me like a car that has always been pretty well maintained.

Back out for a final walk around in the sun... good car!

Like a worn in favorite pair of jeans, a good original Beetle like this just feels so good.
The single ownership since new is also an incredible bonus that is increasingly rare to find.
The goal here is not just the sale of a car, but the adoption of a loved one.
This one deserves to be treated right as it has been over the last 56 years.
