1968 VW Deluxe Microbus For Sale

Wow!

This gorgeous restored 1968 Deluxe model Bay Window Bus comes to us from
San Francisco California and it is a beauty.

The current owner is just the third owner since new and he has been using it as a consistent daily driver
for the past 6 months and it has been super reliable and attracts positive attention wherever it goes.

The Bus was professionally restored about two years ago in San Diego California
by Keith at North Park Imports, and he really did a fantastic job.
It was repainted in its original Savanna Beige color with the white roof
and all the proper trim and details were done. It has a super fresh and factory appearance to the exterior.

Super straight and smooth.

The interior has been beautifully restored as well with only a minor twist for comfort in the use
of a cloth material for the seating surfaces and the installation of a more modern audio system.

The interior is beautiful, still retaining that factory original flair but just a bit classier.

The Bus was sold new in California and has been here its whole life.
Feb 1st 1968 it met its first owner George who bought it from AE Harter Volkswagen in Davis.

It spent its early years in Sacramento and the original dealer "credit card" is still in the owners manual pocket.

Manual pouch is here as well.

I always love it when there is some history to these classic machines.
I did a google search for Mr Laukenman and came up with nothing, so maybe I should just make up a story about him...

Hmm...

Born in 1937 he came  to California from Wisconsin in the 1950s and was the grandson of Hiram Laukenman , the inventor of the letter "Q".
In 1967 he and his wife Gertrude gave birth to Siamese quintuplet girls
and they needed a bigger vehicle to haul the cluster of kiddos around ...
the VW Microbus was the perfect choice due to the large sliding side door...etc...

OK...all joking aside, whoever this George was, it appears that he cared well for his vehicle.

Original tags are all present

Thankfully due to the dry California climate the Bus has remained very solid and sound during its lifetime.

Front floors look amazing from below

Nice clean solid wheel arches with orifinal undercoating still firm.

The owner sent this one photo showing a small rust spot and I cant quite tell where this is.
I will inquire.

All the important areas are super solid and sound and show no signs of rust or repair.

Engine looks to be pretty dry underneath, not perfect , but certainly no signs of crazy prolific leaking
or heavy build up of grime and muck.

Exhaust is a German muffler with twin tweeter pipes

Transmission looks reasonably clean and the brake lines and axle boots look to be in decent shape.

Certainly no show car underneath, but it appears to be a very solid and honest Bus
with no signs of significant rust or repairs.

Super solid original metal on the front floors.

Very nice!

Spare wheel under the cover in back
Nice German square weave carpets.

Love the interior and it all looks so sweet and clean.

Only interior flaw that I spot in these photos is the headliner material just inside the rear door on the right...
starting to loosen up a bit, but could fairly simply be re-glued with careful patient hands.

Headliner looks very clean.

I love the seats

All the armrests and details are in place

Ashtray, grab handle and divider wall pads...and in very good shape.

Love it!
Plenty of room for the "Siamese Quintuplets" of your life.

It appears that the "flux capacitor" has been disabled and as a result the craft may not be able to attain warp speed...

Honestly...not sure what this well taped spaghetti clump is...will inquire.

Original paint code sticker is still present as well as the "M Code" tag that shows all the options
and production information.

Nice matching seat belts and new seat stand mats.

All the window seals and weatherstripping looks to be in nice condition

Nice clean new visors

Dash top looks good.

Dash and dash pad are also in good condition.

Overall quite nice!

Details are nice to see such as the instruction stickers and new rubber bumpers under the gas door.

I spy the original jack peeking out from behind the front seat.
Correct 68 round reflectors.

Very nice high quality Yokohama tires

Engine room is clean as well

The engine has been upgraded slightly with a displacement of 1641cc.

Well sorted and complete and the owner states that it is an excellent runner that has never let him down.

Every diamond has a couple flaws if you look close enough, and this Bus is no different.
Here is a small chip on the back bumper that has been touched up

Another small chip on the drivers side

Tiny paint shrinkage crack behind the drivers front wheel

Ahh...a clue for the "flux capacitor" mystery!
I bet that lump of wires is a part of the Clifford alarm system!

Rip that stuff out and bring your rabid Doberman named "fluffy" with you and you have security handled!

Really nice and straight and glossy beautiful paint

Lights and lenses are all in nice shape as well as the seals.

Original black California plates front and back.

Chrome emblem and very clean trim around the front air vent.

Flat halogen headlights

Another small paint chip that was carefully dabbed to touch up paint.

Love that body trim...so shiny!
(very satisfying to my inner crow)

Current registration and clean title and check out that original selling dealer
license plate frame!  Super cool!

Really a good looking Bus and very cleanly restored.

Best of all looking deeper at it from below and in the deep corners, it looks like it has always been a really
good solid straight example, so it was a dreamy basis to work with for the restoration.

Nice Nice Nice!

Its pretty hard out there in the world of the "early bay" era Busses to find one that has all the right parts and details
and is solid and straight and has not been messed with.  I really like this particular Bus.
Its got a great look and a good soul to it and the quality certainly shines through in these pics.
