1965 VW Beetle Sedan For Sale
This 1965 VW Beetle is located in Connecticut and is in the hands of
it's second owner.
This fellow bought the car in the 1980's. It has 62,000 original miles
since new and has been driven very sparingly.
There are service records that document the mileage through his years
of ownership
as well as the exterior restoration work that was done in the 1990's
... since then it has had only a couple thousand miles
put on it. Just kept in the garage and pulled out for occasional blasts
around the town.
The car has the desirable factory sunroof.
A great option indeed
Under the front hood looks reasonably clean.
Original paint color of Sea Blue.
The original engine still runs like a top and is totally stock.
The carburetor was replaced at one point, everything is very stock and
proper.
You can see when the paint was done back in the 90's they did paint
over the fender beading and taillight seals.
So this was not a high end job, but it has held up well for the
past 20+ years.
The headliner does show some age...the sunroof handle is snapped off
(but that is an easy replacement) original domelight is in place as are
the grab straps.
The sunroof does work and opens and closes well.
It is a happy looking little Beetle.
Connecticut antique vehicle plates on the car.
The interior is all original except for the front seats, which have
been recovered.
The carpet needs replacement, there are some age related issues like
the deterioration of the rubber mats, etc.
Still all original material back here.
Original seat upholstery in back...it is starting to come apart a bit
but it is amazing still to see it in place.
This pattern and material was a one year only thing for 1965.
Fortunately it is now readily available so you could do it completely
back to stock if you desired.
This is original mileage!
Original glove box is intact and clean
The original rubber mats and carpet are in place but are in poor shape.
Snap...the handle is broken but replacements are readily available.
Front seats were redone in blue basketweave vinyl at some point.
Interior paint looks very nice as do the original door panels
All original paint on the dash...no modifications of any sort, the
steering wheel even looks super clean.
Totally love this dealer applied shift pattern sticker...on the car
since new.
Looks like the proper German bumpers
Some underside shots...for being an east coast car it is delightfully
solid.
Under the battery there is a little rust, which is the absolutely most
common spot for that.
Looks like some surface rust around the jack point and above...should
be checked and treated
so it doesnt spread further,
Pretty impressive chassis for an "east coaster", that all looks like
original German metal to me!
Some expected grime and muck from a lifetime of use but everything is
here and looks pretty sweet.
Even looks pretty good around the inner corners and such.
Again...I am seeing some surface rust that should probably be treated
but no big holes.
Not bad at all!
OK...here's a mucky area though...under the spare tire there must have
been some rust or damage
and it looks like they did a piss-poor job of body repair under here!
Not the kiss of death by any means, and you only see it if you crawl
underneath
but it looks like there was some metal replacement under here and a
quick splurge of filler that was never sanded or finished.
I think I may see a little repair on the headlight bucket too up there
in the fender.
40 hp engine, still 6 volt electrics.
The little car runs well and drives nice.
and it isnt hard on the eyes either.
So...it's a pretty low mileage two owner car.
Not flawless by any means, it has it's "to do list" of little things
that would improve it
but it is presentable and cute and it is not priced in the stratosphere
like it would be if it was totally "done"
A reasonable price for a reasonable car, and for our east coast
customers...transportation will be a bargain
compared to hauling one across the country from out here in the west.
