1960 Panhard PL 17 Tigre For Sale

This is NOT a VW (obviously) but it is an extremely interesting air
cooled
European vehicle of the 60's.
Certainly something you dont see every day here in the US!

The body style is fantastic and the attention this car gets on the road
today is crazy!
This one is located in Texas in the hands of a collector that is ready
to send it off to a new home.

Built in France by Panhard et Levassor which has its routes way back to
the very first years of motoring in 1887!
They are still in business today, now making tactical and military
vehicles under the Panhard brand.
Civilian car production stopped in the late 1960's and the company was
eventually merged with Citroen.
Through the years of production Panhard was always an innovator and in
the early years, was also a fierce competitor in motoring events.
In 1895 Panhard cars finished first and second in the
Paris-Bordeaux-Paris race. They are also credited with
many innovations that continue to be in use on today's cars. It
is said that a Panhard was the first to use a steering wheel, a pedal
operated clutch,
a front mounted engine with rear wheel drive...the list goes on and on.

As Panhard production continued through the years they focused on
design and aerodynamics
with a very wonderful flair.
Take a peek at the Panhard Levassor Dynamic of the late 1930's here!

Incredible stuff and a brand that is virtually unknown here in the US.

This example has some California history and has survived the test of
time well.
It is in very good running and driving condition and is quite
beautifully finished.

There are a few signs of age, like the splitting rear window rubber on
the rear glass here,
but overall it is stunning to look at.

The chrome and the shapes on this car are fantastic

The door handles that blend in with the body trim...that fantastic
steering column
There is something almost alien and futuristic about this car even
today some 54 years after it was built!

The wheel covers

The egg shaped fuel door

The eyebrows over the lights

Look at the side marker lights near the antenna

Even the shape of the door is unlike any other motorcar

And look at that face!!!!

The wipers that mount towards the middle and wiper towards each other.

"Suicide" front doors...both front and back doors hinge off the center
post.

The whole front lifts open to access the engine

Fantastic car!

With the portals open you can see the stylish interior

The dash itself sits far forward and is slim in design, while the
steering column and all controls come off this
big binnacle sort of thing.

Instruments are modled all in to this "pod".

I love the door cards and the interior colors and design

Domelight

Under the hood

Headlight detail

The car is powered by an air cooled , two cylinder, horizontally
opposed 850cc engine
that develops a whopping 50 horsepower.

Front wheel drive, like so many French cars of the era.

So strange...and so cool!

The seats are in fantastic condition and are fitted with plastic covers
to keep it that way!

In closing this is a very interesting car that is in nice shape, fully
operational, and is guaranteed to get people scratching
their heads at the next cruise night. A very rare machine in the US and
finding it's equal would not be simple.
