1966 VW Double Cab Transporter For Sale

SOLD!

One of the models we get calls for the most is the Double Cab Transporter.
I joke with people that if I could make a factory that could build these again that they would sell like hotcakes
and I could retire to my own island and sleep on piles of cash and gold plate my dog.
Maybe that is stretching it just a little...but people really love Double Cabs!

This example...a 1966 model, is really one of the nicest ones we have come across in a long time.
It is really super clean and fresh and is restored to a high level.
I also have to say that it drives freakin incredible...really goes so smooth and tight!!

The bodywork and paint is very very nice on the Bus...nice glassy finish and good fit to all the panels.

The Safari windows and the steel roof rack are great additions to it and give it some period character.

All the electrical is fully sorted...lights and brights and signals all work well.

The color is "Dove Blue" and is correct for the year and model.
Wheels and bumpers are done in the proper silver white and the hubcaps are grey painted as they would have been from the factory,

The tail gates are in great shape, very straight and they open and close smoothly.

The open road awaits...

The thin whitewalls were probably not factory spec on a truck,
but they do make it look nice and they are high quality radials that handle very well.

Hula gorl on the dash...period Motorola radio.
Optional cigar lighter.

Interior panels are excellent, handles are all like new.
Side window rubber and seals and felts are all new.

Seats are redone in the grey and grey mesh material that is period correct.

The often missing washer bottle is present.
Fuel gauge is functional as is the speedometer,

Floors are super clean and solid.

The underside is extremely solid and is clean and painted body color.

Being a 66 model it has the air vents along the bottom of the bed rather than the louvers in the rear corners
as well as the wide rear window which is a very big visibility improvement over the small one of earlier models.

Very nice fit and finish and good shut lines on all the doors and decklid.

The engine room is darn near spotless and the stock engine runs superb.
Everything has been fully rebuilt and detailed to a very high level.

Just stunning...only upgrade I see is the swap to 12 volts...everything else looks spot on!!

This truck was restored here in California...Im not sure who did it, but dang they did a very nice job of it!

Taillights and license light work...cool plate frame.

Under the engine is very clean indeed...it is all very fresh. The transaxle does not appear to be a fresh
rebuild, but it shifts and operates very smoothly indeed.

The underside is clean and the rockers are super smooth and solid.
(those are water drops in the photo...not bublles in the paint!)

Splash pan under the controls is cleanly painted in grey.

The underside has a nice texture coat finish to it that should be very durable over time.

Sharp!

Back up top it is even more beautiful!
Super nice truck!!

It is so hard to find one of these that is truly in good condition.
They were trucks...and they were used as trucks with all the abuse that goes with that.
So not a lot of them survived in really nice shape and a lot of them have been rebuilt out of junk.
This one looks like it has always been a nice example.

A lot of these have been modified as well...lowered and customized and messed with.
This one, all stock and proper...is a sight for sore eyes.
I just love them done the way they were when new.

Spare wheel and tire tucked in behind the seat. The original Wolfsburg crest seat belts are included as well.

Here is the "M" code tag behind the seat.

Very clean and showroom like inside (and out)

Rear floor is clean and smoothly painted.
All new rubber and seals.

Latch is nice and clean and the panels look great.

Rear seating area is spotless...paint on the defiding wall is nice..

Upholstery is excellent...very useful storage space under the back seat.

Front floor shot...very clean.

New mat and kick panels.

Steering wheel is clean.
New rubber bumper around the column support and clean hardware.
Nicely detailed restoration here...this was not a "quickie" job here.

Odometer reads 7498 miles
OK...Im going to pick on a little something here...I always look for a flaw.
This one stood out to me...the gasket that goes between the speedometer and the dash was painted over.
Im a picky bastard...I admit it...I would buy a new $4 gasket and swap this out or it would bother me every time I sat in the seat.
Hardly a big deal...the rest of the Bus is really sharp!!

Headliner panels are excellent and done correctly.

Very very clean and proper.

Seats look great!

You could plop this one on the showroom floor and it would look right at home!

Full flaps open

The whole cre cab truck thing is just brilliant.
It is commonplace today with modern trucks...but back in the 60's you really didnt see it that often.
Room for your "crew" and room for your stuff...it is the perfect combination.
No wonder they are so highly prized these days.

Sweet

Aloha!

And the safari windows are fantastic...on a warm day there is nothing that matches them.

They of course close and latch and keep the weather and wind out when you want them to.

All new everything when it comes to the body rubber and seals and such.

Gorgeous truck.

The tail gates and bed are in excellent condition.
Looking super close you can see the gates have had some repair work done
but it looks like it was very well done and is holding up excellent.

The bed looks awesome!

The gates are super straight and smooth...really super hard to find these so straight!

Like new!

Excellent Goodyear radial tires...rides well.

Nice smooth reflections down the sides.

The dream truck for many a VW enthusiast.

Not much more to say about this truck...it is really nice !
And it runs as good as it looks!
