Flashback to the 80's 1957 Oval Beetle Cal Looker
Very classic 80's custom, from the Peach paint color to the "Briz"
bumpers and Centernine wheels.
Shaved trim and handles, louvered running boards, the whole shootin match
and then some.
The car has withstood the test of time pretty well too. A couple of wrinkles
from time
but still quite the "looker".
Very smooth style.
Dark tint was a must have back in the 80's
Aluminum bumpers from "Briz"...I can still picture the ads for
them in the old Hot VW's
The engine is pure 1980's flash and sparkle.
Louvered firewall, chrome hinges and spring, dual carbs, chrome cylinder
tins with color matched
everything else...loaded to the gills with "Johnny's Speed and Chrome's"
finest goodies.
Remember these aluminum distributor covers?
The aluminum coil mount is another classic goodie...and the chrome coil
cover.
Underside of the decklid.
Rear apron has the exhaust cut-outs filled...later smooth rear apron as
well.
The engine and suspension was show detailed at one time and there is just
a little road grime
on it now...wouldnt take much to shine it back up.
IRS chassis by the way on this car.
I can totally picture this car back in the day...all lifted up with mirrors
underneath it!
IRS chassis...note how clean the paintwork still is up above the trans.
Floor pans were color matched...some paint chipping along the edge and
such, but that's about it.
Front beam features chrome arms and adjustable ride height.
Fender wells were all cleaned and painted as well.
Very nicely fitted color matched louvered running boards.
Chrome bumper brackets hold on those fancy bumpers.
Really slick little aluminum wipers.
Billet aluminum mirrors too.
Euro style fluted headlight lenses.
Horn grilles shaved smooth.
Hood handle shaved smooth as well...a bit of a ding and some bodywork coming
back
on the hood here. Thats about the worst of it. There are a few other spots
on the car where the paint and
bodywork are showing signs of age but I noticed nothng major.
Not much in the way of stone chips or anything...I dont think the car has
really been driven much.
Smooth as a baby's bottom!
One piece side windows too.
What no handle?
4 lug "Centerline" wheels .
Stock tailllights
Sweet ride..
The dash...note the power window switches in the center and the aluminum
knobs.
The classic Formuling steering wheel.
Power windows baby!
Billet aluminum rear view mirror
Really wild custom headliner.
Damn that's sexy!
Prelude seats..Deist seat belts.
Plush upholstery
Detailed pedals
Billet column brace
Speedometer...odometer must not be working.
Fuel gauge (also not working)
Scat "Dragfast" shifter.
Chrome strikers.
Door panels are sagging a little...but it wouldnt be too hard to fix this.
Fuel tank painted to match.
Carpet trunk liner is a little saggy
Chrome hood hinges.
Underside of hood uphostered to match the headliner.
Cool.
Chrome hood latch.
A wild ride to be sure...a bit of a flashback to the days of old but still
very modern in appearance and the
era this car was built is starting to be appreciated again. At VW shows
around the world they
are starting to have groupings of 80's customs and it is all coming back
in fashion.
(lets just hope they keep the Day Glo stuff from coming back)
Anyway, a really neat car, tons of special details...and priced to sell.
