There is nothing quite like a drop gate VW transporter.
The class and style of the VW Bus but with the utility factor turned up to full.
It is no wonder these were such popular choices for tradesmen back in the day world wide.
This one is a very special one, with just 45k original miles since new
and a totally stock and un-altered everything!
The truck has been resprayed on the exterior, but the rest is all original.
Very solid example with a long California history and it is currently located in South Carolina
where it has been for just a short time.
The original canvas canopy and hoops are a wonderful detail that is not often found on these trucks.
The sides and back roll up for easy access.
This is the original canvas by the way, so there are a couple flaws
but for being as old as it is...it is still holding up quite well indeed.
The canopy can be easily removed , and you will see in the photos below
that many are taken with this off of the truck.
The color is Dove Blue, which is the correct original color for this truck.
The US spec bumpers as well are correct.

The totally accessable bed on these is huge...so versatile!
One of the major cool factor about this particular truck is the documentation.
From the original manuals to all the service records.
The 45k miles are documented through this paperwork.
Original keys
Birth certificate from Germany showing the Canopy and US spec details as being originally delivered on this truck.
Engine has been recently gone through and re-sealed, etc. Runs excellent.
The exhaust is not original.
Nice clean engine and transmission case
Small reflectors are fitted to the rear corners
Engine room is quite clean
Correct battery and cover in place.
Engine is the right one for the truck and is fitted with all the proper bits.
There are a few paint blisters on the rocker panels, but the owner (a fanatical collector we have dealt with many times)
says that he will have these areas professionally repaired and treated before the sale is completed.
Very clean and solid underneath
Appears to be a recent undercoat under here...looks very smooth and clean
Side door latch is clean with new hardware.
Under bed area is quite clean.
Some pitting to the metal, and the owner states that he did find a pin hole or two in the cargo floor, but
nothing of a structural nature that would require attention.

Jack points and inner rockers look very dry and solid.
The side gates and lower access doors have been resprayed.
The color is just a shade off based on what I see here.
Looks like a couple of waves down this door as well.
Overall the body seems very straight and accident free.
Wheels are the correct 15" rims with painted caps
Looks like minor pitting to the door handles
Must be original paint on the turn signal housings as there is a slight fade.
Emplem is excellent
All glass except windshields is original
Roof is clean and solid.
The bed and back wall of the cab are in really nice shape!
The wood slats on the bed look great.
Inside of the back gate is a bit ripply
Gates seem quite solid along the bottoms

Original paint on the inside of the cab...nice to see the M code tag in place..
Spare tire looks like early stuff to me.
Seat is in very clean shape

In closing this is a very nice example of an all stock, fully documented original truck.
Low miles and an easy life. It is not a perfect show car but it is a no fear, well kept machine
that will be a fine addition to any collection.
