1979 VW Beetle Convertible For Sale

This impressive original low mileage survivor was purchased off our website
in April of 2022 and was shipped to its current owner in Florida.

The car has been garaged and driven sparingly, with less than 300 miles added
to the odometer during his ownership.
The car remains in superb condition and really the only change since the previous listing as been
the location and of course the minimal added miles.

The engine room remains super clean and it still runs and drives fine.

Current odometer shows under 6950 original miles.
With that being said...the images below show that car as listed with us when the current owner bought it.
The ones above are current images.
So...on to the detailed pics taken before.
1979 was the final year for the German built VW Beetles and in the US the only ones imported were the Convertibles.
After such a long and successful run with millions of units sold in the US, it created quite a stir
and it seems like quite a few of these "final run: cars were scooped up by collectors and stashed away for safe keeping.

Over the years many of these "sleeping beauty" cars have come out of hibernation and have been
put back on the road. The numbers of truly low mile examples get smaller each and every day.

This particular example was located in Illinois and was with its previous owner for about two years.
When he took delivery it had just 3200 actual miles on it, but like with many of these that have
spent more time sitting than driving, it needed some mechanical love and attention to make it properly roadworthy.

The car appears to be all original paint with the exception of an apparent paint repair
to the passenger rear fender and quarter panel with a blend into the door so it all matches wonderful.
Close inspection does not show signs of body filler or real damage, so it must have been surface scratches
or something that made the repair necessary .

The tires have been replaced for safety's sake.

Truly gorgeous car inside and out and when you see the underside of this car, it will blow you away.

Of course the car has all the right original parts just as the factory installed them.

Remarkably clean and showroom condition everywhere you look.

All lights and functions on the car are in working order, even the clock inside.

Original dealer installed Blaupunkt radio

The clock works, the dash is excellent

The original numbers matching engine has been fully gone through and runs superb.
When the owner first got the car one of the piston rings had stuck from sitting so long
and as a result the engine came apart for inspection and repair. New pistons and cylinders
were installed as well as a new fuel pump, muffler, alternator, rear main seal and push rod seals.

Over the past two years after the mechanical work was done, the owner had driven it
and enjoyed it greatly, in fact he more than doubled the mileage since his purchase.
The odometer read just under 6800 actual miles on the car at the time of these photos.
And yes...that is real mileage.

Interior is really nice and showroom wonderful.

The underside of the car is incredible.

Great color...hard to beat a red convertible!

And with an underside this nice?
Oh come on...this is a fantastic time capsule...seriously wow!

In closing this one just seems miraculous.
We have had other really low mileage examples posted before on Oldbug
but this one stands out to me because of its extensive mechanical refresh
and sorting. This ads huge enjoyment factor to the car...you can truly turn the key and drive.
The question of course is how much to drive it? Do you pile the miles on it and enjoy it as it was
intended, or do you keep it as an artifact and wipe it with a diaper?
Personally I think I would go with both! Drive and enjoy and just keep it as cherry as possible.
And finishing up with a current image of it at the Florida owner's home

Its a special and spectacular car. The condition is very impressive
and it's a rare find indeed.
Are you the next owner that will drive this low mileage time capsule?
Or does it go in a museum to be preserved for future generations as the minty icon that is is?
The choice is up to you!
