1978 "Custom" Super Beetle Convertible

This is a pretty slick ride.
Its not often that you see someone use a late model Super Beetle as the basis for a "Cal-looker" so it really stands out in the crowd.
It has been a consistant trophy winner at the local So Cal events, bringing home an award (2nd or 3rd place) at
the VW Classic show for the past 6 years straight and a 1st in class in 2008!

The color is really stunning...a special mix fire truck red and it is nice and deep.
With the black top and aluminum accessories...it has a very classic appeal to it.

Gone are the clunky big Super Beetle bumpers and custom aluminum blades
protect the front and rear.

Flat lens taillights have LED lighting units behind the lens for a modern bright light.

Polished aluminum running boards are also a nice addition.

The original Karmann badge remains.

Headlights are very cool units with fog lights built right in.
LED turn signals just inboard of the headlights are reminiscant of the early Cal Look Lucas units
but with a modern twist.

Shaved body chrome gives it a clean un-cluttered look.

Empi 8 spoke wheels with excellent tires.

Another shot of the clean rear end treatment.

Just in case you were wondering what kind of car it was....the Volkswagen script.

Engine compartment is very clean and well detailed.
The engine s a stock 1600 that was rebuilt just 5000 miles ago.
It still retains all the factory fuel injection and emissions equipment so it passes the
strict California smog test without an issue.

Very clean in here.

Polished firewall ads a little "bling" to the engine compartment.

Super clean undrneath the engine as well.

Trans too is very clean. Mechanically the car is excellent...a great reliable runner according to the owner.

Floor pans show signs of very minimal repair, the heater channels and support rails look very solid.

Another shot from below

A shot from under the front.

Disc front brakes and custom A arms get the nose down low and still retain a decent ride
and safe handing.

The front wheels are wrapped with 145-15" rubber.

Some ever so slight waves down the sides, but very glossy smooth paint.

Glass and rubber is all in good condition.

Top is in nice shape and the frame is clean and tight.

Top down in the California sun... lets hit the beach!!

The interior of the car is very nice as well.
Custom brushed aluminum trim panels brighten up the dash.

Seats are a tasteful grey with tweed inserts and vinyl bolsters and backs.

Here's a little better shot of the front seats.

Rear seat looks like it's been used sparingly. New seatbelts at all seating positions.

Speaker panel fitted nicely behind the rear seat.

Other speakers mounted in the front

Steering wheel and column were custom fit in from a later model VW.
A nice subtle upgrade...almost looks factory.

Carpet shows only minimal wear.

Odometer reads 39,000 miles.
Actual mileage on the car is unknown, but the owner states that there are only about
5,000 miles on the current engine.

Nice modern stereo and CD player.

Event pins from the VW Classic shows are pinned to the dash mat.

A little bit of wear to the edge of the driver's seat from getting in and out.
This is a car that the owner is certainly not afraid to drive.
It was built as a driver and thats what gets done with it.

Headliner in black vinyl.

A little wrinkly but no holes or damage that I could see.

Custom shifter.

Door panels are nicely done to match the seats.

I noticed a small "elbow dent" on the inside of the driver's door.

A good looker.

Clean and tidy under the front hood as well.

Spare tire is clean and aired up.

Car was painted into th deep corners which is nice.

Bottom side of the hood.

Looks pretty tasteful...a custom with class.

The bumpers are pretty cool by the way...fairly thick.

So...there you have it.
Its a clean mild custom, tasteful upgrades, nice condition, very minimal wear.
Mechanically very good with about 5000 miles on the engine. a turn key, ready to drive car that will|
provide it's new owner with something unique, yet subtle.
