1961 VW Double Cab Transporter For Sale

This Southern California based 61 Double Can is a clean driver quality restoration
that is turn key and ready to go.

Nicely restored but not over-restored, this is the perfect truck to actually drive an enjoy as
it was intended. Its clean enough to get a lot of attention but not so over the top that you would
be afraid to put your bikes and boogie boards in the back for a run to the beach.

This is a desirable model, with the ear.y bullet turn signals and small glass taillights.
in 1962 VW went with the bigger plastic lights out back and the "fried egg" signals up front.

I just love the early lights!
Great color, the factory Dove Blue and with the white bumpers and emblem it just looks so right.

Clean and solid bed and side gates on this one!

Very nice condition here, these beds so often get really beat up over time.

Very nice

Out back is a smooth running 1600cc engine with 12 volt electrics
all new wiring harness, new brakes all around including drums and all ATE brand parts.

The interior is done very clean and stock with grey vinyl on the seats
and the original style grey hard board side and roof panels.
Seat belts have been installed to safely haul your precious cargo.

Door panels look nice, I just love the simplicity of the trucks.

Very clean up front as well.

Dash is super nice and uncut. No radio, factory block off plate in place.
Nice accessory basket just hangs off the dash grilled and is great for holding your drink.

Safari front windows let in the breeze.

Divider wall is clean and straight

Floors are solid and clean...this is a really good truck.

Very reassuring to see this so clean and solid under the mat.

Correct 15" slotted steel wheels with painted hubcaps.
Nice Hankook radial tires all around.

Very clean nose on the truck

And of course those safari windows are an awesome addition.

Underneath the truck seems very solid and sound.

Not restored to concours level or anything silly, but it is presentable.

Under the engine is reasonably clean and proper.
Transmission has been ungraded as well with a slightly newer unit with better gearing for today's world.

Mudflaps!

Rubber seals and all look to be in good shape

Rocker panels look solid and straight.

Very clean in the door jams

Seat stand area also shows well

Rockers look good!

Its obvious looking deep that there has been some metal repair done
at some point and there are minor inconsistencies such as this little gap in the fender well
above the jack point. Everything seems very solid and sound structurally
but it is details such as this that keep the truck from being a "top level" restoration.

Floor in the rear area looks great too

Correct grey headliner panels

Very nice.

Rear window

Engine compartment details...hood prop is missing.
Battery area looks very clean and nice to see the proper hold down in place to keep the battery in its spot.

Pretty clean in here I must say. Not spotless but nice.

Body tag

Engine is a 1600cc dual port that is well maintained and runs really nice.

A crack in one taillight lens.

Door fit looks good with consistent gaps.

I also like the ice pick door handles on these early models/

Kick panels under the dash are clean

Dash looks great

Fresh air box as well is cleanly painted

Stock steering wheel and horn push.

I really like this truck. Its clean and honest and overall kept properly stock.
The 1600 cc engine, 12 volt electrics and safari windows are all positives when
it comes to enjoyment level, and it is most definitely a rig to be proud of.

Oh...another note...looks like the bumpers are both the correct "slash" design units.
Often I see early Busses with later bumpers where the ends come to a point in the middle of the blade.
The correct ones for this year are as seen where the ends are finished at a fun angle.

So if you have been looking for a good double cab, and especially an early model with the bullet signals
there are not a lot to choose from out there in the world it seems.  This one is a fun ride that is ready to
roll and I feel it is priced very fairly for its condition and the current market.
