1959 VW Double Cab Transporter For Sale

This Southern California based 1959 Double Cab has just emerged from a four year long restoration
that has resulted in perhaps one of the finest restored double cab truck we have ever seen!
The level of detail and the quality of the finishes is nothing short of spectacular.

Being a 59 model, it is one of the first full years of production for the model.
Prior double cabs were produced, but were built by the coachbuilder Binz.
The 59 models can be identified by their "seamed" side gates, which are extremely rare.
Look carefully at the pic here and you can see the seam in the middle and the smaller center pressing
in the center of the gate. This was basically a re-working of the tooling for the single cab side gates.
I believe this happened for only the first part of production. Fairly early in 1960 the tooling changed.

Here you can see the variance of the "impressions" on the side gate...two long and the short center.
Later models all three are the same shape.

Another detail of the early models are the "high hinge" on the rear door.

Bullet turn signals continued to 1961, in 62 these were replaced with the "fried egg" plastic lenses.

1959 was also the first year for the over rider bumper as you see here.
These continued until the end of split screen production in 1967
(with a minor change to the shape of the ends at one point)

The small glass taillights continued until they were replaced with larger plastic lens lights in 1962

Enough of the history lesson, the point being that these early examples are very rare and hard to find.
Pretty low production as well, while exact numbers have not been documented, it is estimated that roughly
4100 were built for the 1959 model year. Very few remain.

This one is just phenomenal as far as quality and fit and finish.
These trucks lead hard rough lives and getting one to this level of perfection is a monumental task.

The finish quality remains fantastic even in the deep corners and under the lids.
Look at that reflection on the backside of the engine lid!

The engine compartment looks fantastic and it runs and drives great.

There have been just a couple small diversions from original equipment on this truck such as
larger displacement , 12 volt electrics with an alternator and the addition of disc front brakes.
Later model carburetor, fuel pump and coil, etc, but all of it truly show level and functioning well.
Rebuilt everything!

The safari rear window is also a non original item, but is super cool

The restoration of the bed and side gates is fantastic.
Looks flawless!!

Probably not the truck to use for runs to the local landfill or hauling your construction equipment.

Interior is of course extremely well done.

Beautiful!

All just perfect, most likely better than they ever were off the factory line.

Look at that paint reflection on the parcel tray!
This is one nice truck!!

All just so clean.

This photo taken during the restoration shows the level of finish in this lower compartment...amazing.

The underside of the truck is just as impressive! Wow!

Here are some photos taken during the assembly of the truck again show the level of
detail and the quality of the restoration even in the areas nobody will ever look.

Front suspension shot showing the disc brake upgrade, all a direct bolt on.

Check out that engine bay!
Transmission is a fresh rebuild as well.

Brake detail

Just wow!

This restoration was extensive and expensive. It was a no holds barred build to make this truck
the very best it could possibly be. The results are quite evident in these photos.

Beautiful inside and out and even the underside,
if you are someone that truly wants a spectacular example of a rare early
seamed gate Double Cab...I think you would spend a long time hunting to find its equal.

Definitely drool worthy.
