1968 VW Beetle with Porsche 356 Engine For Sale

This 1968 Beetle is being sold by the son of its long time owner
who modified it in the 1970's and fitted an engine from a Porsche
356!

Located just outside of Chicago Illinois, this cool little sleeper
is a real time capsule.
Always garaged and kept out of the weather since the 1970's
it remains in quite presentable condition as you can see in the
photos.

There are some dings, scratches and small age related issues if
you look close
but it still shows well and holds a shine.

Very minor body modifications such as the removed running boards
and
filled in rocker panels. Edges of the fenders reshaped just a hair
as well to line up with the
rocker panel areas. Rear taillights have also been shaved and
swapped for round lights.
Turn signals removed from the fender tops and relocated below the
bumper.

Small nose style license plate light from an early 60's model and
the rear apron
reshaped to eliminate the cut outs for the pea shooter tail pipes.

Minor stance adjustment with bigger tires out back on wider than
factory wheels with stock hubcaps

They are subtle modifications, but when you look close you see its
just a bit unique!

What is most special about the car is the late 1950's Porsche 1600
S Motor that came from
a 356 Super. With dual carbs and a nice upgrade in horsepower over
the stock VW engine.
This was apparently installed way back in the 1970's!

Nice custom tin fitted in back to fill the gaps and a slick
aluminum pulley.

Engine number looks to be from roughly a 1959 Porsche Super.

Dual carbs, extended oil breather

Spin on oil filter added as well.

The seller states that the engine runs and has good compression.
The car has spent a fair bit of time in storage, so it may need
additional
tinkering and tuning to get it back into daily use, but it is
operational as it is.

Under the front hood is basic and reasonably clean.

Headliner looks like it may be the original and holding up quite
well
save for a little yellowing from age.

A mix of original materials in the back and an added third brake
light

Seat upholstery is holding up ok as is the flooring I suppose.
It could all be redone if you wanted it perfect or just give it
some careful cleaning and it would look better

Here you can see the added filler panels that went in to cover the
eara where the running boards originally mounted.

Stock steering wheel and shifter but a full compliment
of gauges in the wood grain finished dashboard.
