In any case back to the car itself...it is downright impressive in all
regards.
Its a "zwitter" model, one of the mid year transistional cars
built between the split window
anfd oval window era. These cars are pretty rare and feature some unique
attributes.
As far as authenticity wise issues, there has been some mild deviations
from original
in the trim and accessories, but seeing as it's a custom car, those rules
just dont apply.
As an example of this, the bumpers and license plate light are from an
earlier model split...
but this all adds to the cool factor of the car in my opinion.
The bodywork and paint is exceptional quality.
The stance of the car is just right and the line between drag machine and
restored stocker is
masterfully blended.
Behind this humble little face lies the heart of a monster!
Porsche headlight lenses, accessory horn grilles.
Swan neck mirrors.
(we sell these by the way...check out our online store)
Glass smooth body lines.
Pop out rear quarter windows, grooved body trim.
Three fold sunroof with stayfast canvas (Mercedes style) cover.
Semaphore turn signals.
Vintage ski rack and chrome vent trims.
Chrome trim around the windows as well (correct for a zwitter)
Popes nose plate light, year of manufacture California plates, AA badge
and VVWCA badge.
Locking split era decklid handle.
The base of the ski racks.
"Heart" taillights and a cool vintage third brake light.
Deutchland origin plate.
Grroved bumpers with nice custom hardware.
Fully chromed and detailed Porsche alloys wrapped with Phoenix drag tires.
Early 4 1/2 inch alloys up front with Phoenix front runner drag tires.
Rear wheels are studded with lugs.
Four wheel disc brakes.
Chrome wipers, chrome trim around the windows.
Chrome trims on the door hinges.
Accessory fog light.
This is my favorite shot of the car...dang it's a beautiful one.
Under the hood is show level detailed as well.
Very nice pinstriping and lettering on the fuel tank.
Cool polished ribbed edge fuel cap.
Check out the hardware holding the tank in...very nice details.
Super clean wiring.
Backside of the speedo has been chomed...wiper motor polished.
Chrome hood hinges with more cool hardware.
Matching alloy wheel for a spare.
Chromed hood latch.
Shows very well indeed.
Featured in the May 2007 issue of Volksworld Magazine.
Other magazine features are in the works as well, here in the US and abroad.
Great spread in Volksworld!
"Its a show car, a go car, a vintage classic and a hot street car
all in one".
"Well over budget" indeed...this was obviously a no expense spared
build.
This car has also been featured in Hot VW's Magazine here in the US.
As impressive as the top side is, the underbelly is just as gorgeous.
Check out the level of detailing under here...just plain awesome.
Floorpan was pweder coated in a veined black silver combination that is
very cool.
Other bits were done in blue candy and of course some chromed goodies and
hardware to add the bling factor.
Paint finish in the fender wells is impressive, everything as spotless
as can be.
Yummy
Needless to say there is no rust anywhere down here...
Slick goodies are everywhere.
The transmisison is show detailed as well and is a full tilt
race box with Superdiff, heavy duty everything.
3:88 ring and pinion and 4.11, 2.47, 1.71 and 1.31 ratio gearing.
Ron Lummis Racing "Black Magic" Clutch.
Definitely not a freeway driver with this setup, but from stoplight to
stoplight you can blow some minds.
Just a stocker 25 horse back here... NOT!
Try closer to 10 times the original horsepower!
The engine is rated at a reported 240 horsepower!
2332cc displacement, 13.1 compression, Competition Eliminator heads, 46mm
/38mm titanium valves
52mm Ida Carbs, Berg linkage, Weisco pistons, Eagle H beam rods, 84mm Chevy
journal crank, etc etc...
As far from a stocker 25 horse as you can get.
Exceptional detailing everywhere you look.
Fuel pressure regulator, all stainless braided plumbing.
Pretty mild mannered in apperance on the outside...the decklid closes all
the way...just the fat exhaust
poking out gives any tip that there is something serious under that lid.
I guess the drag tires give it away a little though...
here's my favorite shot again...
A flower vase in a drag car?
Thats what makes this car so cool...it's a great blend of the best of everything.
Three spoke steering wheel with full circle horn ring.
Vintage accessory guage panel and of course the Monster Tach up top.
Glove box door signed by the legendary Lee Leighton, one of the pioneers
of VW drag racing.
(this could be easily removed if you didnt like it...but I think it's kinda
cool)
Stock seats with impressively well done upholstery in the proper stitch
pattern.
Nice fat racing belts to hold you in the beast.
Access to the rear seat is a bit limited due to the Ron Lummis Racing roll
cage.
But the kids wont mind the climb...
German square weave carpets, chromed luggage rails.
Well fit mohair headliner.
All looks tight and tidy.
That big three fold sunroof is a great thing too...let in the sun and let
out those screams
as you blast down the road with the front wheels in the air.
(OK...drive responsibly...dont want anyone gettin hurt)
Chromed pedal assembly.
Locking Berg shifter, fully polished.
H patter heater control knob...no, the heater doesnt work.
Really bad blurry photo of the carpet...my bad.
Very clean in the jams.
Door panels are well done.
Proper early ribbed doors.
So...not a lot more that I can say with this one.
Its a very well done car, freshly completed, barely run, already a legend
with magazine features and awards.
The best of everything and then some.
Vehicle is located in the great state of Texas and can be seen by appointment
only.
