Celebrity Owned 1963 Volkwagen Karmann Ghia
Extremely well cared for and kept in tip top running condition by
skilled
mechanics...this is a car
you could probably fly in and drive home just about anywhere wheels
could
take you.
It is also clean enough to do well in the awards standings at any VW
show.
The car is currently located in Asheville North Carolina.
Some of you may recognize this car from a previous listing. The current
owner bought the car
off our website in 2009, less than 1000 miles have been put on the car
since
and the engine and brakes have just been upgraded and the original
parts retained.
Now this was not a body off concours restoration, the chassis is not
mirror
finish and detailers
have not swabbed the transmission ribs with a Q-tip, but as you will
see
in the photos, the car is impressive just the same.
The blue and white color combo is very pretty and the excellent chrome
and smooth bodywork
make it even prettier up close as at a distance.
This was a Black California plate car, registration is current and the
title
is clear.
Just a reminder...the car is now in Asheville North Carolina.
Paperwork wise the past ownership is documented so you can brag to your
friends
that this car belonged to....( ______ ).
(if you are serious about the car...call me and I will fill in
the
blank)
Ok...enough about that...lets look deep into this sweet little machine
and see what we have here.
Body is very smooth and straight and the finish of the paint is glassy
smooth.
Fit and finish is very good, the chrome is bright and clean and the
whole
car has a factory fresh appearance to it.
Porsche 356 style chrome wheels with VW hubcaps, hand painted centers,
all wrapped with excellent radial tires.
Aluminum side trim is straight and clean, the Karmann body badge is in
place and is beautiful.
Chrome on the bumpers and headlight rings is all excellent.
Nose of the car is straight and everything seems to fit as it should.
Electrics have been converted to 12 volts and all lights function
properly.
VW badge upon the nose.
Sweet
Glass is excellent, all rubber seals and trimmings were replaced at the
time of the restoration and show virtually no wear or aging.
Paint line for the two tone is done in the correct spot and is very
well
executed.
Karmann Ghia script on the engine lid is excellent.
Very nice example...one of the best we have had on our website.
Taillight lenses are clean and crack-free...seals and chrome look very
good.
Nice level of detailing where the brackets hit the body... this was no
cheapie resto...owner probably has upwards of
$35,000 in just the restoration of the car. It was done by the best,
for
a very particular owner.
The engine compartment is very clean and the engine runs very
smooth and
proper.
The engine is a freshly built 2007cc street motor, mild, not wild, with
the smaller carbs
but it really makes the car a delightful driver and very
sporting...certainly keeps up well with modern traffic.
This engine is seriously brand new...only about 500 miles on it.
The original engine and parts for the car were retained as well and are
included in the sale
The original engine was totally clean and show detailed and ran
great...the current owner just wanted more power!
Battery area is spotless.
Nice detailing at the latches...very very nice.
Underside of the engine lid.
Floorpans are very solid and have a good strong undercoat to keep it
that
way.
Very good, no signs of any rust or repairs.
Front end is very smooth and tight. Brakes are excellent.
In fact the front brakes have just been upgraded to a brand new disc
brake set up...excellent stopping power.
Paint quality down low is excellent as well.
Under the front hood is as spotless as the exterior.
Underhood is clean...hinge area is excellent...paintwork is nice in all
the spots...even deep corners.
Hood latch detail
Very very clean...and yes...that's me in the reflection...with my
matching
color shirt and all.
(This car is in the high rent district you know...I just had to be
"fashionable"
!)
Spare tire and wheel are spotless.
Note the Vredestien tires...gotta have German rubber for a German car
eh?
Jack is nicely restored and properly stowed in the front.
Very clean and well detailed in here
Horns and boot are in the right place and the wiring is all new.
Inside the front nose it all looks perfect...very nice straight
car...so
often they get a little tap here
and are never totally "right" again. This one is dreamy.
Washer bottle and brake fluid resevoir are clean
Fuel tank was painted to a high gloss
Very clean indeed.
Body tag
Complete tool roll.
Back outside for a moment...do you like what you see here?
Just wait until you see the interior...ready the drool towels.
Interior is wonderful and the grey color with off white piping look
fantastic
with the body color of the car.
OK...we all have butts...right?
(unless you were involved in some horrible accident... do they make
prosthetic
butts?)
sorry...back on track here... for those that are into such things...a
very
well known one has spent some time right here.
The back seat is only for small butts...
Luggage, golf clubs, groceries from the farmer's market...those all fit
right back here.
Note the German "Square weave" wool carpets, very well fit.
Door panels are excellent.
Hard to see it in these photos , but the lower material has a great
texture
to it...proper for the Ghia.
Headliner is as new...very tight and smooth.
Visors and mirror are very clean.
Restored steering wheel.
Odometer reads almost 64,000 miles.
I would imagine mileage since the restoration is just a few thousand at
the very most.
There has been less than 1000 miles put on the car since the owner
bought it a few years back
the engine has only about 500 miles on it, the front disc brakes as
well.
Correct radio with the proper Ghia only knobs.
Dash pad is excllent.
Instructional sticker on the glove box door...coool!
Carpet is excellent.
Backs of the seats well fit as well.
Love these door panels...wow they are nice!
Clean and smooth paint in the door jams.
Like new!
OK... I think I have dazzled you enough with pretty pictures and
subjected
you to enough of my odd ramblings
about celebrity butts and such. In closing, this is a gorgeous car.
Very
well restored, super clean and proper
and it truly does run and drive as good as it looks. Great colors, top
quality materials and parts,
this is a car that was built to please someone who can have any car
that
he desires, and he has enjoyed it greatly.
If you have the means...you are going to love this car...(and the story
that comes with it).
