1967 VW Squareback For Sale
SOLD!

With the prices of VW Busses climbing fast in recent years I have seen an increase in interest
in the Squarebacks as an affordable alternative for something that can haul your stuff as well as your people.
For those of you who have not had the opportunity to drive a Type 3 VW, it really is something different
in the VW world as they are much more comfortable and "normal car"-ish than the Beetle or the Bus.

The 1967 model is a sweet spot in production for the whole VW model line it seems and this
is a prime example of one. The car was fully restored , body off the chassis in 2011-2012 and
has been in the current owners hands since 2013. He has put a ton of time and money into
making it the best it can be and states that it is 100% operational and that he would not hesitate to hop
in it right now and drive it any distance.

The car is located in New York and has been garage kept and never driven in bad weather.
Its been a wonderful weekend play toy for its owner, but he has decided to sell it on
as he has been favoring one of his others cars lately and he doesn't want to see the Squareback sit.

The car has a great look tro it with mild custom touches, yet still a very classic look to it.

The shaved side trim and hood trim keep the body lines smooth an uncluttered
and the great anthracite grey paint color just sets it off so well.
The 4 lug BRM wheels are a direct bolt on with no adaptors, so a swap back to original wheels would be a snap
if you ever wanted to change it up.

Lots of great modern world upgrades and additions to the car such as power ports for your modern devices.
A classic styled radio with bluetooth connection and hands free capability.
VDO oil temp gauge and air/fuel ratio instrument for the installed Innovate MTX-L oxygen sensor.

The car is very clean in all the deep corners and the quality of the restoration is evident.

The seller has included quite a few photos of the restoration of the car in the mix here so
watch for the date stamped images and see just how far they went with it.

Body tag is present and chassis number matches.

There are a few stone chips on the front from driving since the resto was completed and
the owner states there are a couple small chips on the body from use, but no major damage.

Disc front brakes.
Front end has been lowered ever so slightly to give the car a little sportier look
but it is not at the point of rubbing or at the compromise of ride quality.

Subwoofer for the audio system is hidden below the back seat.

The car has been layered with a "dynamat" style sound deadener that
keeps road noise to a minimum.
Noce process shot here...I love seeing the extent and approach to the resto.
This was not a cheap "quickie" job by any means!

Wiring is all excellent

Cant come much further apart than this eh?

Nice to see the latches and hardware were not painted over.
These folks went all the way.

Front speakers are mounted on the front quarters.
Carpet is showing just a little settling from use, but has been protected well
by nice rubber floormats.

Matching spare wheel and tire.

Door panels and interior still look fresh.

Trunk area is very cleanly finished.

The "Retrosound" stereo is great as it has all the functions of a modern unit but still fits in a nice factory style bezel.

Here is another nice process shot...seams were all sealed with a proper filler.
Finish is fantastic.

This is a process shot during re-assembly...the car has been driven quite a bit since,
but you can see just how nice it was all done.

Again...Im sure if you looked under the tank today it would not be this spotless
but it does remain in very good condition.

Solid!

Another assembly shot before the carpet was installed.

Gene Berg shifter has been installed and is hooked to a fully rebuilt and re-geared "freeway flyer"
transmission with a 3.88 ring and pinion and 3.80, 2.06, 1.26 and .88 gears.

Another great assembly shot.
The protective tape in place to avoid scratches as things come together...very good approach.

Now all together it is gorgeous inside!
Check out that beautiful wood rim Cip GT wheel.

Great dash and the contrast between the red upholstery and the body color is just perfect.

New headliner of course, the hinge covers were replaced as well.
All new window rubber and body seals at the time of the restoration.

Headliner is not perfect...there are a few wrinkles, but the material condition is excellent with no holes or stains.
Door and window posts were left painted body color rather than being wraped with headliner material as original.

Seat detail right and left.

Underside of the doors is clean and solid

Just a great looking car and obviously well built.

Check out the color matches seat belts... 3 point set ups up front and a 4 point harness
in the center rear to keep a little one securely fastened.

Tachometer is a very nice addition as well!!

Out back is a brand new CPR(Chicos performance racing) 1835 Thick wall BTN with:
full flowed
Camshaft upgrade 2241
Head Upgrade big valve 40 x 30.5 D. port matched intakes
Welded and balanced fan
8 to 1 compression
Dual Weber 40 IDF’s
new clutch/throwout bearing
Heat fully functional and works well
Was dyno’d and produced 125HP at the flywheel(translates to around 100hp at the wheels- and it’s fun!!!)

The Weber IDF's are a tight fit but manage to squeeze in just perfect without the need for any sheet metal modifications.

That full length wood slat roof rack is awesome!!!

More dash shots.

In the rear cargo area there is a factory style rubber mat, over a carpeted mat, over a jute padding,
over the sound deadener layer which is firmly fixed to the sheet metal.
This keeps things very well insulated from heat and noise!

Well done.
Seat back rubber is original and shows a little wear.

Detail in the rear seat footwell showing the carpet, rubber mats and seat belt installation.

Lowback seats look awesome

More of the layering in the back

Rear seat

Headlights have been converted to LED as well as the interior lights and brakelights in the rear.

So sweet

In closing this really is a sweet machine.
A restoration to this level is not a cheap endeavor, nor does it happen fast.
The best way to buy a car like this is to buy it "done" just like you see it here.
It has been well kept, its been run well and all the bugs worked out of it
and the first few stone chips and scratches have happened so you don't have to be too precious with it.
This a great car at a very fair price.
