1962 VW Type 3 Karmann Ghia For Sale

This is the "Pagan Princess", a ground breaking custom Type 3 Karmann Ghia that was
built in England in 2003 where it absolutely took the VW world by storm.
It was on the cover of the magazines, won all the top awards and really blew everyone away...myself included.

The car is now in California, where it has spent the past year or two winning all the local So Cal shows
and blowing more people away.

The car is still in fantastic condition, driven very sparingly
and kept well.

The true stand out part of the car is the phenomenal paint by "The Paint Box" in England.
The impressive mix of color and artful blended highlights is simply amazing in any light.

Take a look at the darker center ridge and the fade from light to dark towards the outside...
This is not shadow in the image...it is the paintwork itself.
Highlighted with the white pinstripes...this is high automotive art here.

Oh Lordy this car is gorgeous!!

There are numerous small custom touches everywhere you look as well.
The normally 3 pc bumpers were welded and smoothed out prior to chrome to give a seamless look
with hidden hardware as well.

Front bumper is the same...smoothed out.
The body itself has had no modifications. with the exception of the removal of the original
front turn signal lights and emblems around the body.

The yellow fogs look great in contrast to the headlights.
I absolutely love the Type 3 Ghia body style...it is so unique!

The detail of the car is more than skin deep.
This was a complete body off restoration with all the deep corners treated as well.
This shot inside the front spare tire well shows how clean it is in the spots you dont normally look.

Paint under the lids is super clean as well.

Nice trim work and interior done by Bernard Newbury, another top name in the UK scene.

The UK plates are still with the car as well as all the orignal UK paperwork and receipts and all for the work done on the car.
Currently it has a California title and all is clear.

Here in the US, the car was featured in VW Trends Magazine

In the UK it was featured on the cover of Volksworld Magazine and inside with an impressive 6 page layout.
The car won Best of Show at the 2003 Volksworld show as well as far too many other awards to mention.
It has also won a ton more trophies after coming to the US...the car is a star!!

Under the front hood there is a spare fan belt as well as the wipers and arms

The underside of the car has a truly impressive polished louvered belly pan as well as very clean
detailing on the body and suspension.

Nice under there!

The body is exceptionally smooth and straight.

Here is another shot of the polished belly pan...like a mirror!

A very very light bit of road grime from putting a few miles on it, but if you wanted to show it with the full display
you could easily clean this all back up!

Body is very solid, any rust was professionally dealt with and with the restoration being
almost 9 years old now...it is holding up extremely well and no signs of rust or repair are poking up.

The car is a right hand drive model which is extremely rare.

Despite being an obvious show car, this car truly runs and drives great!
The owner has not been afraid to drive the car, in fact it was driven to the photo studio for the Volksworld shoot!
Ive had a chance to drive it and it was a delight.

Reading up on the paint job...this was a massive effort to create this effect and result.
Two epic sessions in the spray booth...the first one being 12 hours, then a few hour break
and then back in the booth for another 14 hours!! The results are impressive.

After primer the body was sprayed with a House of Kolors silver base coat, than a blend of House of Kolors
Pagan Gold and Lime Gold for the highlights.
The fadeaway effect was achieved by building up layers of the gold in the areas that are darker.
The white under body and fender wells required some careful masking to avoid overspray.

Read it...learn it...live it.

Inside there are a lot of great period "Kustom" details such as the layered lexan knobs.

Classic pleats on the white panels.

Door jams all painted properly as well.

Turn the key and go!

Moon instruments.

Great vintage shifter and knob.

Genuine Hurst trigger shifter.

Chrome plated pedal assdembly and other details.

Rear seat done to match

Or folded down...all excellent.

Headliner is wonderful.
The only thing missing is the sun visors.

The pinstriping on the dash by Neil Melliard of Prosign in the UK is another top craftsman in the scene!

Custom knobs!
And flower vase!

Even the push buttons on the switch panel were redone in layered lexan.

Functional tachometer is a very rare item!

The custom steering wheel treatment is out of this world.
Believe it or not it is not that awkward when it comes to driving...
I found myself just gripping the upper handles like an airplane pilot
and it felt very natural.  Looking back over your shoulder and reversing caused me to grab some air...
but other than that...it felt quite normal and it looks so wild!!

Interior is still looking very nice.

I love the color combinations here.

Here is a nice detail shot of the fade and striping...so amazing!

Sticker on the bumper...yes...the owner is a girl!

Under the lid is a pro built 2007cc powerplant that is very clean and runs fantastic!

45mm Dellorto carbs, Eagle rods, Engle cam, Kennedy clutch...only the best of the best inside.

Under the back lid is of course well painted and detailed.

Nice

Trim work is all excellent on the car and the rubber seals and all were replaced and look good.

Drool...

The ride is quite nice too...it is low but not insanely so like some customs...this one is drivable!

It is as fun to look at as it is to drive.
You can just get lost in the paint and watching the light move off the body lines...magic.

Ever see something like this before on any car??
So well done!!

Another little detail is the bullet blue dot treatment on the taillight lenses.

The chromed JGE Raders wheels are fanastic.

The wipers have little chrome caps on them but these are easily removed and you can put the arms back on.

Still a UK tax disc in the windshield from just last year!

Stunning.

Im just going to stop with the writing here for a little...what more can be said?
It is a true one of a kind!!

Amazing car.
