1972 Porsche 911 T Targa Original Survivor Car.

When it comes to car collecting, much like with coins or comic books, the examples that are
most prized and valued the highest, are the examples that are in incredible untouched condition.

With cars, unlike coins, they can be restored, but the examples that really stand out in the crowd
are the ones that have never been touched and have a great back story to them.
This car truly checks all the boxes.

This amazing survivor example is entirely original inside and out, never restored.
It spent 40 years in hibernation, being parked in the 1970's and only just recently
has been brought out to the daylight and meticulously serviced and recommissioned by marque experts
and properly and professionally detailed and preserved to maintain the pure originality of the car.'

It is shockingly beautiful and is a very exciting driver.

The Porsche certification has been obtained establishing the original equipment and options.

The car also has a phenomenal paper trail documenting it far further than the Porsche certificate.

This is a photo of the car "as found" in its California garage where it was last parked in the late 1970's.

The owner kept the registration up for a few years after putting into storage,
the last registration sticker put on the car was 1983, however we have established that it was
most likely parked prior to that date.

The owner was meticulous with his records on the car and when the car arrived at our workshop
the oil filter showed markings as to the last time it was changed and the mileage.

Further notations in the fat file of documentation shows that the oil was changed (without filter)
in December of 1978 with 36,027 miles on the odometer.

The car today shows just 36,181 miles on the clock, and this is after the mechanical recommissioning and
several test drives. Amazingly low miles for a Porsche of this
vintage, and it is absolutely the accurate mileage on the car.

The condition inside and out is impressive.
The car has factory air conditioning, which is a rare option to find.
The system does function too, but no attempt has been made to refill the Freon.

The car features the optional sport seat on the drivers side only which was installed in 1975
along with the fantastic "Pepita" hounds tooth cloth inserts.

The condition is impressive!

Door jam id sticker

All original interior

Original paint inside and out

All the original decals and stickers are in place

The numbers matching original engine has been fully serviced
including re-sealing of the gaskets, a full rebuild of the factory fuel injection system
as well as a long long list of other mechanical work done by a well respected professional
Porsche mechanic in Southern California (receipts of over $8,000 in recent service are available)

Careful attention was paid to retain as much of the original equipment and finishes as possible
during the mechanical rebuild. Items were cleaned, and serviced, but not painted or manipulated in any way.
Safety items of course such as fuel lines and seals were replaced with correct OE quality materials.

The car runs and drives fantastic.
Very tight, solid and responsive as you would expect for such a low mileage example.

Very well detailed and clean in all the deep corners.

Being a 72 model it has the short lived and unique "Oel Klappe" oil filler flap behind the right side door.
This was done primarily for improved weight distribution by putting the oil tank as close to the center of the car as possible.
The propensity for gas station attendants to accidentally fill the oil
tank with gas made this design attribute a short lived detail.

Very clean in the door jams (and everywhere really)

The condition of the seats is spectacular, cushions are firm and show no breakdown, even on the drivers side
with the tall spot set bolsters. This has not been re-stuffed or anything either.

Porsche radio

Targa sunroof panel headliner cloth is sagging a bit, but remains totally untouched and original.

Slight warpage to the rear deck panel under the window, but again...all as found and totally original.

Dash is all original and no cracks or damage.

Paint is original and the body is spectacular.
Very close inspection will show a few chips and scratches from storage perhaps
but this all helps legitimize the originality of the car.
We have not done paint meter readings on the car, but intend to and will post the findings here.

The detailer that we enlisted to polish and preserve the original finish is one of Southern California's
finest and is extremely well respected in the Porsche circles having all the "heavies" such as Seinfeld
on his normal rotation of clientele. He stated clearly that the car is one of the nicest originals that he has seen
and believes as we do that the finish is original and unmolested.

Such a great car, and in black, which is a very uncommon color for the era, it really shows the lines beautifully.

Glass is all excellent, rubber is original and still supple.

Talbot mirror installed when new.
The only spot we have seen any sign of non original paintwork
is on the top corner of the drivers side front fender.
After speaking with the daughter of the original owner, it was confirmed that
at one point the owners wife broke the antenna off pulling into the garage.
There was a fairly "heated discussion" that occurred after that incident and
the resulting repair completed with the filling and blending of the original antenna hole
and a new antenna was installed on the passenger side of the car.

A few stone chips here and there on the front, but minimal.
We chose to leave the car exactly as is rather than touch anything up,
but Im sure a little careful dab here and there would visually make many of these disappear

All lights, lenses and trims are original and untouched.

The wider rear wheels have caused some question as they are not noted on the certification as being original to the car.
It is known clearly that they have been on the car since the 1970's however and while we have not checked the date codes
I would be willing to bet that they are quite close to the original dating.

Such a striking car...and what a blast to drive!

Just beautiful

More shots showing the impressive original interior

The car comes with many extras including the factory shop manual binders.

A new set of factory front mats was also with the car when found.

Another interesting and rare thing stuffed under the front hood is a roll of original Pepita fabric.
Note the date on the tag. It is believed that this is when the front seats inserts were done and the sport seat was installed.

Wild!

A Porsche face mask was also under the hood carefully folded.

Extremely solid car by the way, no rust, no repairs, original spare
under the hood looks like it has never seen the light of day.

Storage pouch for the targa top

Original tool roll looks complete and correct.

The paper trail on the car is truly impressive with the latest pre-storage note being the "New Years Eve"
oil change in 1978.

Each and every service has been well documented, either by hand written note or service receipt.

1975 alignment at the Porsche dealer

Some proof of the car story if it sitting 40 years in that the 1980 and 1981 tags were never affixed to the plate.

Odometer statement in 1973

The ownership history of the car is documented back to new.
The previous owner of the car actually was the second owner, having bought the car in May of 1973

Even some paperwork back to 1972 when new

Key code tag

Owners manual shows original sale date as May 4th 1972
( "May the fourth be with you..." )

Original jack is superb

Even the original front plate was under the hood...never mounted.

In closing the car is truly an impressive example.
All original, no restoration ever, low miles, 40 years of hibernation, amazing paper trail
and now freshly gone through from bumper to bumper, mechanically and cosmetically ready to
drive and enjoy and show in the preservation class at the next event.
You wont find another one quite like this!
