1989 VW Syncro Doka Transporter

SOLD!!

While the vast majority of VWs that we see come through our website are of the pre 1980 air cooled variety
there are certainly some amazing VWs built well after that...and I think it would be hard to top
this magnificent beast when it comes to cool factor!

This east coast based 1989 Double Cab is a truly bad ass example of the four wheel drive Syncro
model that is powered by the nearly bombproof 1.6 turbo diesel powerplant.
Great mileage, impressive torque and when locked in 4wd these things climb nearly anything you put in front of them.

This truck has had a lot of work done to it in recent years  including an engine rebuild in 2016
and more recently, new off road springs and shocks from GoWesty, 16" wheels and all terrain tires,
new brakes, bearings and CV boots, as well as the addition of all the killer safari package goodies
like the bumpers, off road lights, roof rack and more.

The truck has been repainted at some point in a darker green than the original color.
It shows well but does have a few spots where the paint has bubbled and as you would expect with an off road capable
machine, there are a few chips and scratches here and there.

The bed is in nice shape and has been sprayed on the deck with a bed liner material.
Tail and side gates remain painted inside and out and are very clean and straight.

The rhino bar and tough looking grille add greatly to the look of the truck and the original style
Syncro graphics tell the world that this is no normal "Vanagon".

The truck appears quite clean in the deep corners.

Floors look good and the interior is very clean.

Walk through front seats with nice storage spots underneath.

Here you can catch a glimpse of the original green under the dash...definitely much brighter
and I must say that I think the current color looks much more fitting for something you
would want to adventure through the outback in.

Dash and controls are clean, interior is very nice.

New carpets keep things civil and comfortable inside.

The tinted windows add some nice privacy and also add to the tough attitude

There are a few scuffs and scratches , but nothing major as far as body issues.
With a truck like this, I think it is better to have one that is not too precious when it comes to condition.
Go out and get it dirty, drive it as it was intended.

Odometer reads 30k kilometers, but I do not believe this to be accurate.
With the engine rebuild just a few years back, as well as the other mechanical attention and upgrades
in recent day, this is a turn key driver with a lot of life in it.
It will probably wear you out long before you wear it out!

The 1.6 liter Turbo Diesel engine runs great!

Electrics and battery are good, everything works as it should.

Lots of storage in these trucks both under the bed and under the seats.
Super utilitarian design , these are definitely function over fashion...
which in the end makes them fashionable just the same.
I always see these and compare them to the Land Rover Defenders and Series trucks.
So cool, yet so simple and rugged.  They just look awesome and ready for adventure.
Even a trip to the grocery store can feel like you are on safari in one of these.

The big benefit of the Syncro over a Land Rover is comfort...these are very civil
and comfortable interiors and great ergonomics and decent creature comforts.

Nice fold down step on the rear gate.
Having the fold down tail gates all around the bed is really awesome.

I totally dig the bold tough bumpers and details...definitely cranks the cool factor up to the max.

Truck is located in Connecticut and has a clear US title.

A few small bubbles and paint flows here an there.

The beast in its natural habitat.

Love that big roof rack as well!

Definitely has some presence to it!

Plenty of room for the family

What a great truck!
This would make for an amazing daily driver or weekend adventure wagon.
These trucks are unstoppable!
